    Hi,

If I may piggy back on this thread, as I am in a similar situation and looking for advice!

Since picking up the Optoma HD141X projector on new years day, I have been thinking about bringing together all the video sources using an av receiver.

My current amp + speakers (5/6 year old Yamaha RX-V361, and NSP 110 5.1 speakers) never really worked for me. This amp doesn't come with a tuning microphone thingee, and my rear speakers are way too close to the sofa (in a bay window), so I could never tune it to get a perfect balance of surround effect. And the subwoofer that is supposed to come on when the scene demands it comes on a few seconds too late and then stays on for another few minutes after everything has calmed down. But main issue is that the amp doesn't do HDMI. At all.

So coming from that background, would you have any recommendations on what I should look for - considering this is going to be part of the living room, I would prefer wife-friendly (not-overly-visible) and pocket friendly (value for money) set up. With young kids in the house, I am not looking for a loud system, in fact I would love if I could hear every minor detail and feel the base at a very low volume, not sure if that makes sense...!

My sources are going to be a PS3 (bluray and games), Soarview/freeview box, Chromecast/Roku/AmazonTV type thing (for Plex and streaming) and perhaps another TV tuner box or a HTPC even. I would like 4-5 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output. And I think 1080 upscaling would be very useful. 4K Passthru would good too I think? Not sure if I need blutooth / wifi / internet audio - any of the Android devices can do that, I guess. And the tuning microphone yoke - because I am not very good at it myself. :o

Apologies for the wall of text - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bump. With hindsight, I probably should have posted the above in a new thread....

    Positron,

I've merged your two posts and given you a thread of your own for your AV Reciever query.

    Cheers,

    Ritz.

    Hi positron,

I drove up the lads in Belfast at the start of the month, to pick up a Sony 1080, to go with my Epson projector, & I can highly recommend it !

I was upgrading from a Onyko 606, as I wanted to be able to handle 3D, & 4k if needed in the future. Right now its getting fed from a NUC HTPC, a Sony Bluray & my Linux Sat box, so I'd say you'd have now issues with any of your existing kit.

Thanks FF, are you refering to Sony 1050? Looks like a mighty fine receiver.

I had given up on this thread and was exploring my options - I was reading up on a powered HDMI switch from Monoprice that can extract audio from HDMI inputs.. that yoke can bring my existing and amp and speakers back to life, freeing up funds to invest in good set of speakers.. And receiver prices traditionally seem to drop to their lowest around April-May... Obviously I have more time than money at my disposal, so I am keeping my options open! :)

    Thanks again!

    Hi Positron.

Apologies for the delay in getting you a replay.

If you do change your mind or do decide to go for some speakers let us know and we'll see what we can come up with for you.
