Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Has there ever been a better chant than Will Griggs on Fire?

Been laughing a lot at both sides of the border in the videos from the Euros so far, seem to be loving life and getting on really well with locals for most part.

I used to quite like when Villa fans sang " Gabby, Gabby Gabby, Gabby Agbonlahor, hew fast as f**k, he's fast as f***********k" to the tune of Karma Chameleon by Culture Club.

    "There's only Two Andy Gorams"

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Goram
After it was reported in the press that Goram had a mild form of schizophrenia, fans responded with a chorus of "Two Andy Gorams, there's only two Andy Gorams". This chant quickly gained popularity, and became the title of a book documenting humorous football chants.

It is crazy how soccer fans just rob each others' chants, change them around a tiny bit and then shamelessly claim them as their own.

Imagine if Irish rugby fans started singing "Swing low sweet Charleville, coming forth to cheddar my scone", or Scottish fans, "Low lie the fields of Aberdeen" (and at least in the case of their seabed oil fields, this would be accurate)...

Always loved the one when Wayne Rooney was caught doing the dirt on his missus...

*to the tune of Bob Marley's no woman*

"No woman no Kai, no woman no Kai"

    Kai is his kid!!

    Doesn't really make sense though?

Apparently the best ones don't have to.

May I bring your attention to:

    OLÉ OLÉ OLÉ OLÉÉÉÉÉ...
    OLÉÉÉ...
    OLÉ.

Olé is just a cheer word, how does that not make sense? Other than being Spanish?

You're right of course. Literal translation being "bravo".

I was attempting (and failing) to seize an opportunity to slag off my least favourite chant of all time.

Had to laugh when I saw this in the dictionary under "olé":

    Origin:
< Spanish (h)ole, probably of expressive orig

    New chant:
    Holé Holé Holéééé
    Me hooooole,
    Me hairy hoooole.

(Admittedly I'm squeezing in an extra syllable to the last line.)

This is up there with their best alright, but my personal favourite was always:

"Bribe not a bribe", confirm FAI.

Nice that they're going to sort out Palestine too before the Belgium match. :D

Dealz or Boots for a 2-3 pin adapter will sort you out
The charger is 110-240v so no need to worry about anything else

That's true, the input is pretty standard, it's the output where the juice is so any adapter should be graaaaand
    Thanks

It really really annoys me when people call our soccer team the Republic of Ireland. Just thought I'd put that out there

Because of a strange arbitrary decision. But it doesn't make any sense as a name.

I vote that we rename all teams similarly. The Constitutional Monarchy of England has a nice ring to it!

It could have been changed in the intervening years, people like it, the match going fans like it, it's a total non issue really

They're all wrong to like it

My main problem is that a surprising number of people's entire knowledge of geography is based on international soccer, and this is just miseducating those people. And they have a hard enough time as it is.

That's basically my only problem with it. It's the official name of the team and so people calling them that doesn't bother me - people calling Ireland ROI as a matter of course does annoy me however (the BBC in particular drive me mad on this front).

You'd be surprised how many people can't find this whole island on a map of the world, the name of a football team has nothing to do with that reality

Nah you're wrong as well. It should bother you that the name is wrong, I'd prefer a typo. Everyone is wrong!

I don't even mind if they can't find us on a map. I'd just prefer that when they are made aware of us, they're made aware of the correct name.

Nothing to do with the name of a football team is it though
And when people ask about Ireland I'm pretty sure there are many people who will bore the arse off them so much they begin to wish they'd never found it on the map in the first place

It is relevant when most people think that is the name of our country because of the team!

She is adamant that she wasn't at fault, I know for sure fact she is so now I'll probably have to deal with the hassle of insurance companies for a couple of weeks

Yeah took loads of photos of my car and hers.

No she hit me on the drivers door, she was in the lane for the next exit but turned in to my exit. It's a bit of a dodgy round about so I was actually keeping an eye out for someone in the wrong lane and beeped at her before she hit me hoping she'd stop, but no such luck

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,863 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

Oooohhh dodgy to say the least.

If she claims you pulled out when she was taking the exit..... Always give way to traffic an the right and all that....

She was in the wrong lane and drove into me when I had already begun to exit the roundabout.
It was a single lane exit at 12 o'clock we both pulled off the roundabout at the same time, me in the left, correct, lane and her in the right, incorrect, lane.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

The understanding of how to use a roundabout in this country is appalling. Almost every day I see someone completely misuse their indicators on a roundabout. About once a week I see someone indicate left to turn onto a roundabout, the indicate when on the roundabout and then indicate left when they're exiting. It's not unusual to see someone do that when going straight on from the right hand lane either.

It should be a compulsory element of a driving test if a roundabout is available.

Not if she came from an exit over 180 degrees to the one taken, and especially if she indicated to take the exit after the previous one.

Make sure you have the gardai on your side on this one ! No loose ends as to how she traveled and indicated....
