i think i have an idea.

---It happened after the blue screen of death occurred for some reason

---I used have norton (dont now)

---i think the system did a memory dump and restored itself

---now all files have been backed up (whatever that means)

    can anybody explain this

----I had norton but uninstalled it (years ago).
    ----Blue screen of death appears(yesterday).
    ----Computer restarts.
----I backed up my files on at USB
----Now all the logos have that green square/white tick synonymous with norton.

i cant even remember by norton email account so i cant check if they have been backed up

    anyone care to explain....

Can you post an image of this green tick that appears to be troubling you?

Anyone/program can customize the appearance of a folder. Mightn't always be the best to assume because you may have seen this type of icon before, that it's associated with the same program.
From what you've told us so far, it sounds more likely that the folder image is related to you backing up your files.

Get a decent uninstaller like revo and check for programs which may have 'reappeared' and then remove them.

If it's like the above picture it's most likely the Shell Icon Overlay Identifiers caused by Norton's 360 Backup Status Indicators being turned on.

If your system was restored? Norton might be restored too? or some of its registry entries?

    Give Ccleaner a run too.

I still stand by my original post, unless you can post a screenshot.

    hi

sorry for the delay in getting back. am i restarted my computer and the green boxes disappeared. it must have been when the blue screen of death came and messed up code or something (not a computer expert)

anyhow i probably need a new computer. it keeps crashing regularly now. i think it has memory problems. Its about 3ish years old.

whenever i used sky go it tends to freeze. i think it is memory problems.

    thanks anyhow for the replys

That's what I was thinking. A lot of file syncing services use green ticks to indicate a file has synced.
Since the OP never posted a screenshot, we don't know.
