Glad now that I put on those extra pounds over the Christmas. Off outside to sit on the shed - I may be some time. (I'm not losing this shed, not again.)

Walked from the University to Castletroy in Limerick. It seemed to have calmed down yet the wind was very cold. Stopped raining.

The wind is really picking up in Donegal here, some massive gusts.

My biggest enemy tonight though has been the thawing of the snow, there is 3 possible routes into my house when I was coming home I was greeted by this!

This is how it's sounding at the moment.

It was very windy and squally in Galway City about an hour ago. It's settled down now, nothing out of the ordinary. I'm measuring the QNH here at 967, a huge drop since this afternoon.

Worst yet to come, not mass hysteria.

How bad it will become will begin to come clear when the first cloud head hits the northwest coast in the next 2-3hrs.

Would that be a sign of it calming for the south in general? Very quiet in Cork

I think so yes. Mainly the West and North to see severe gusts from now on.

Theres a lot of questions as to when why where winds are going to be strong. for the west coast, coastal counties are going to have very strong winds after midnight until at least midday tomorrow . midlands and east will have a windy night but certainly not out the ordinary for January. a reminder that winds are only increasing now from the storm itself. the strong winds reported earlier were from a squall line that has now cleared the country.....take note and keep well away from western coasts
