Mercruiser Gear Oil.

    Some advice please, I'm looking for gear oil for a Mercruiser 5.0L petrol......and I'm wondering will this be suitable?

    Yep that should do but bear in mind that it's not marine grade so it may not blend with water and still offer good protection a marine grade will turn milky and still work fine but an automotive may stay separated and the water can still do damage especially if it's salt water. If you do go with this oil keep it toped up to the max just to be on the safe side.
    P.S I take it you are talking about an Alpha outdrive.

    It is Fergal, it's an Sea Ray Sundancer stern drive with an inboard motor. The gear oil in it at the moment isn't milky, it just looks like normal gear oil.

    If your gear oil is clear and just looks like normal oil it's a good sign that no water is getting into your gearbox unless you just bought the boat, then it could mean that the last owner just changed the oil to hide the fact that it's letting water in :D
