Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was just popped up to IKEA to pick up a new wardrobe ;) I wish.

I wonder is it JP McManus'. I believe he bought a G650 last year. Keep an eye to see if EI-LIM will take off in a bit.

Just putting this all in perspective - last winter I was on a flight out to Zurich. Delayed on the ground in DUB because they were informed of a runway clearance interrupting the landing slot. No holding whatsoever in ZRH. I understand that snow is unexpected but perhaps some British airports need to get into that mindset. It seems every winter they have snow, why not bring in some joined up thinking... (That said they'd handle it better than DUB too).

That's called flow control. Often when there is flow into Dublin there's NO holding and often after flow is lifted there's NO holding.

The problem with flow is capturing the aircraft that are airborne, it takes time to see a response to the flow. After a delay and a two hour flight you will see little or no holding (long downwind/speed control to absorb any delay).

Just putting it into perspective as well.

My point is that they delayed us on the ground as they knew there'd be snow and they knew when the runway would be cleared, so rather than knock everyone back 2 - 3 minutes it was arranged to make it easy. Just noting how it wasn't done similarly in MAN.

I think that snow yesterday was unprecedented to an extent. Something like that may be coordinated over a deeper cold spell.

Getting a ATC slot or restriction on your departure is not new and happens on a daily basis in the summer time, it's a complete nightmare, everyday 1-3 hour slot = total nightmare

FR807 making an approach to Knocks RWY09 (without ILS) after holding for a while. Vis isn't great at NOC currently, 6000m with a low cloud base. Broken at 200ft.

Looks like FR1958 Dub-NICE is returning to Dublin.

FR805 (STN-NOC) diverted to SNN yesterday due to fog at Knock, RVR's were between 250m-275m for well over an hour.

    any reason why?

I don't know, only heard that it was off for the time being over an ATC transmission.

    Back on now anyway.

I heard something strange flying overhead in south Dublin a few minutes ago. Checked flight radar and it says its a Piaggio p180 avanti.

Thats the scooter people, right? Mad looking thing, cant be many around.

767 just into Shannon there from Kuwait,

another 767 on approach now from Shannon to Dublin - Star Air Cargo which is regular enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,235 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

Somehow I missed it, but WX319 (LCY-ORK) diverted to SNN likely due to fog at ORK. Didn't even decend for cork just went straight to SNN.

The scooter business was a subsidiary of the aviation company and was spun-off in the late 1970s I think, once the scooter-hype had faded. Piaggio have liked high-wing pusher-engines since the late 1940s, mixed-in with a design tested by NASA-Ames to make the Avanti.

Gates were going to work with Piaggio to market it in the USA but pulled-out in favour of their own Learjets. Took 20 years for the Avanti to break into that market but seems to be doing OK now, they did a tie-up with Ferrari in the USA to give each other a halo-effect. About 200 built to date.

7700 is the General Emergency transponder code so really could be anything.

Apologies for the late post, due to having been unable to log in for the last few days. A Piaggio P180 flew over my house in Clondalkin on Wednesday evening (pretty sure it was Wednesday) en-route to Dublin Airport.

At first, I thought it might have been one of the PC9s from Baldonnel going at a good speed, but having checked FR24, I was very surprised to see what it was. I can't say that I've ever heard one fly over here, yet even see one in the flesh. It's a strange looking aircraft alright, but a nice change from the norm.

Would anyone be able to tell me the type of plane that landed in cork at 13.30pm today,it was a small one? tia

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 812 ✭✭✭rightyabe

Hey just wondering why planes leaving/landing from carrickfinn airport don't appear on FR for a good while after the leave and disappear just before landing?

    Cheers

The ADB-S radar at Carrickfinn airport would be very poor, so the aircraft is lost from the radar at a high altitude. The ATR42 also has a very poor radar pickup losing it at an even higher radar.

Yeah but the flight disappears at low altitude and can never be seen on FR on the runway. Even sometimes when the plane leaves DUB it doesn't appear on FR until its 10-15min into the flight.

    Any way to improve this?

The reason it disappears lower is due to FR24 estimating its altitude and location for several minutes after losing signal.

Unless they put a better ADB-S radar on the ATR42, there's no way to improve it.

    better ADB-S radar transponder

C-32A 98-0001 callsign Air Force 2 coasting-out from Wales in the descent through FL320 towards Wexford. Tech stop in Shannon perhaps?

21:10 down past FL300, definitely for somewhere in Ireland...

Onto Shannon Approach at 21:33 ILS rw 24. Controller told him to stand-by, good lass!

    Departed westwards around 23:40

Just west of Kerry. It's sounding pretty serious, all we have to do now is wait for media to pick it up of course...

EDIT: Making a dive for Shannon it seems.

And what will they do in Shannon? Will it be there later?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 146 ✭✭Shannon Control

The protocol is to sterilise the aircraft and evacuate it, they will get a bomb disposal team out then and confirm stuff for the media. Then it will be kept there or if it's nothing then let on its way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,212 ✭✭✭✭Oscar Bravo

It will be evacuated, then moved to the designated bomb scare ares in the middle of the airfield until the duration of the flight time expires. Bomb disposal teams will then do a sweep of the aircraft. It will be tomorrow before it leaves.

All pax and crew will have to be interviewed aswell.

    Hopefully another costly hoax.

Can anyone tell me why the plane will only be inspected after its actual time to land in Istanbul will have passed?

This is the quote from Breaking News....

The jet will then remain parked until its scheduled flight time to Istanbul elapses. Authorities will then inspect the aircraft and speak to the crew.
