First race of the road season..Kind of. Porte (9/4) goes in as favourite but I fancy Ryder Hesjedal (14/1) to nick the overall.

Interesting profiles, enough lumps and bumps to keep it interesting throughout. Kittel is the only top tier sprinter at the race so should sweep up any sprint finishes that arise.

BMC will be riding for Cadel Evans in his last ever professional race, and have sent a strong line-up of riders to support him including Peter Stetina, Rohan Dennis and Michael Schar. No Irish participants.

Yep, it's on Sky. They do a pretty decent job of it too IMO

Finally some cycle racing on the box. I had to resort to watching darts last week.

Live coverage will probably start around 1 in the morning, there should be repeats on all the following day.

Yeah, last year it was quality viewing. The GC was decided by a single second between Simon Gerrans and Cadel Evans. It's actually one of the better stage races to watch in my opinion, beats any of the tours of the middle east countries anyway. The profiles invite attacking riding, doesn't hurt that the stages are pretty short, and it's not like there's any other racing going on you can watch :P

Looks like this is for Porte this year with the form he is in.

Would be great to see Cadel win his last race before retirement though. He has been a great ambassador for the sport.

I'd say Evans will be going hard for this (with his last race and loosing by 1 sec last year) and see Porte as his main rival as he seems on form atm. Interesting abt Hesjedal, He's very much building up to form based aimed at Giro/Tour. You know something we dont? :-) Looks like it will all come down to Willunga Hill!!!

Just a gentle reminder - will resurrect the seasonal reminder sticky in due course, but no posting details of how to access illegal streams. In addition Spoiler rules apply. The spoiler rules were updated towards the end of last year meaning you can refer to the current day's thread in a following day's thread if that following day's thread has already been started (which may be particularly relevant when stages are being run overnight our time). If posters want to discuss overnight stages during the course of the following day they must use spoiler tags unless it is a separate stage thread for that or the following day.

Full details are in the forum Charter

Remember everyone, spoiler rules apply for all televised races - If you want to discuss the specifics of the race, make a thread for that stage. Use spoiler tags in this thread :)

    End of stage 1 spoilers
Looks like Giant aren't happy to do all the chasing this season, and as a result the four breakers managed to get the slip on the peloton. Still, Giant will probably be raging not to take the first stage and the Ochre jersey. Different prospect tonight, profile could work for anybody in the right circumstances.

Very enjoyable finish to the stage. Always like to see a breakaway cling on, especially when it's not expected to!

Must be some expense and hassle for the teams to get their cars etc over to Australia. Especially those roomy Jags.

Queen stage is tonight, with a double ascent of Willunga Hill. Tonight's the night if you want to stay up to watch a live stage.

My betting has gone abysmally so far, so I've put small e/w bets on Ruben Fernandez and future African star Tsgabu Grmay at 150/1 to rescue my TDU.

    - Porte's finish was mightily impressive - pity he couldn't take the gc lead - did he leave it too late to make his move!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,526 ✭✭✭✭Darkglasses

Please don't post spoilers people! :)

Porte was impressive but underestmated Dennis's form ...All those preparing for the hour record are in grat form at the moment

Stringbean....you need to use the advanced settings and the the spoiler option to cover spoilers
