    Why else do you think?

I'd say Dempsey is sickened he's seen Ray trot off to a perfect time slot, shorter on air time and TV work.

To be fair, Dempsey genuinely sounds like he enjoys his job and is more than happy as part of the Today FM family, Darcy didn't at Today FM and still doesn't on Rte. Unfortunately Darcy comes across increasingly as the kind of person who sees the glass half full.. ALL THE TIME!!!

Dempsey strikes me as a man who has no ambition to better himself but would be severely jealous by people who go on to better things.

what I think? I think they were glad to see a moany git who never socialised with them, who wouldnt interact with them, who wouldnt cross share items on shows, who just pontificated to them and was an annoying person was gone, and someone they genuinely like and get on with take their place on the show, and is now a generally happier place to work in and have a nicer person to work with.

And I doubt Dempsey is too distraught, considering he was crowing about signing a new 3 year deal with Today FM and was in a really up beat mood about it and genuinely seems happy with what he is doing and who he works with.

    Considering he tweeted this:
At least 3 people have asked, so - I've just signed a 3 year contract with @todayfmofficial - as Clean Bandit say "No Place I'd Rather Be"

and was quoted as saying this,
"It's as if you're reading about somebody who has passed on - nobody's dead here so just relax everybody.

"It's fine, it's just a person has decided to move from one job to another and the person who was doing the job in this particular company will be replaced by somebody else."

and then this about the Anton Savage Show
‘I’m delighted, I’m thrilled to bits’.

‘We want to wish you best of luck, I’m a big fan and love listening to you on the radio over the years.

‘I’m a big fan of tone as I told you in a text message the other day, and I think you understand what tone is, and I think tone of 9-12am show will be superb.’

and that straight off the bat they took the pi$$ out of Anton in a Gift Grub sketch

I doubt he a) really misses Ray, or b) is in anyway jealous!

To be honest, that perfectly describes Darcy, not Dempsey

Yes that is why Ray decided to take a pay cut for a better job with greater potential. :)

What is your obsession with D'Arcy? I get it you like him but a lot of people here obviously don't, I don't understand why you feel like you have to fight his corner at every opportunity? Why can't you just enjoy his show? It's like you're constantly waiting to pounce on anyone that says a bad word about him, it's very odd.

That's not bettering himself, that's taking an easy payday. With an organisation he had an awful lot of contempt for before he jumped ship. I've listened to his new show only a couple of times but it sounds very lazy. I use to be very supportive of him on Today FM but there's no way I'll be switching to Radio1 at 3pm

I don't see you asking why people don't just not comment about d'arcys inability to press the buttons?

Can't you at least keep it to the actual Ray D'Arcy thread though? Because this is the Anton Savage show thread. I keep coming in here when there's a new post hoping it'll be about the show when yet again it turns out to be you going on about Ray again and again. I suppose you'll say now it's because no one wants to talk about Anton (or give out, perhaps because he's actually doing a decent job!) Freedom of speech and all that but the record is well and truly broken. You're hijacking a thread where Ray D'Arcy isn't relative anymore. Fight it out on his thread by all means.

My bottom line is I turned D'Arcy off because he was having a genuine negative affect on my mood every day. Now that Anton is on, I find myself laughing along with him and I always feel cheery when listening to him. That's all that matters to me, not who gets paid what or who is jealous of whose paycheck etc. etc.

I'm interested to see how the Anton Savage show does in the long term. I still have a little bit of a summer holiday feeling about it, haven't quite got my head around the idea that I'm not going to tune in some Monday morning and he'll be gone.

Its never ending with some posters on here, as if they are refreshing constantly, waiting for the opportunity to jump to the defense of Ray.....

    +1 on that.

It's nice to have a fresh voice on the slot without having to count down the days to when the main man would be back like a cloud on a summers day.

Who knows, maybe Anton will get annoying and predictable in the future but i aim to enjoy the sun until that day arrives:)

I would like to see him give his opinion a little more though... I think he might be a bit cagey to do that because of what went before him. It's early days though, I'm sure as time goes on and he gets more comfortable he'll open up a bit more. You kind of have to in the slot he's in. Not to the extent of D'Arcy but even Tubridy or Moncrief give a little bit of themselves without going too far. Anton has been trained all his life to do the opposite though so maybe we'll never really get to know him but that's his choice, I'd still be more than happy if he continued on the way he has been. Time will tell.

But I can; and I'm telling you to not post on this thread until at least April or you'll be facing a permanent ban from Radio due to the constant disruption that you're causing.

Thank fcuk Darcy is gone - moany little git. I listened to him for a long time and really enjoyed it - but the last five years, he was painful. Had a very weird chip on the shoulder, and incredibly close minded in some areas. And it's not length of time on the radio that caused the decline - Ian has been on even longer and the show is still great.
Although it did happen with Gerry Ryan though, he was great for years, but the last 7/8 years he had become obnoxious, judgmental, something like that. Although a lot of that could have been a reflection of his own life beginning to disintegrate.

Anyway back to the man of the moment, I am tuning in more and more to Anton Savage. I have heard a couple of the 'digs'/plugs for Anton, they are so noticeable. I really like him, & have done for years. I don't mind any presenter being 'ignorant' of some things like rugby (for example, as a previous poster mentioned), much prefer them to own their ignorance rather than claiming knowledge they don't have.

Anyway this morning, it was first time hearing the news from the local papers from around the country. That is a genius idea. The most expensive breakfast roll :D
What was hilarious though, was the woman who was five times over the limit, stopping to help the garda car with a puncture and offering help. Idiot. Just too funny.

Go Anton. Keep up the work.

After just quickly browsing through this thread it is odd the obsession that some have with Ray D'arcy despite his departure. I suppose it illustrates the importance of radio presenter being somewhat controversial ..... No publicity being bad publicity and all that.
On Anton Savage show I have tuned in a few times and found it bland enough, inoffensive but safe.

even though i liked ray, he'd have done some sighing and tutting on that interview and got frustrated in general. anton did well keeping his cool. professional job.

Anton, just for a min after 11am almost turned into Ray for not putting up the volume on the sports guy & he quickly reminded him that he had enough of the last guy doing it, Anton first at laffed until he heard that, he went dead silent.
But no fear with Anton, at least he knows his limits & just laffs it off.

As mornings are fun again, bringing sunshine even though it's blistering cold outside :D

I'm enjoying Anton's show and find myself tuning in at some stage everyday. It's a long time since I made a point of listening to Ray's show like that and, when I did turn it on over the last year or so, I always turned it off after Ray inevitably annoyed me in some way.

Anton is a nice mix of light hearted and intelligent and doesn't have the annoying back room staff that Ray did. Mairead in particular used to bug me too!

have you seen the amount of "celebrity" ****e on the main stream medias websites and the amount of "celebrity" ""Gossip"" on some of the radio stations. Unfortunatly there seems to be a section of the population who think some z listers life & antics are News.

Yeah the world is gone to pot, what celebrities name their children and how they wear their hair is considered news.

Luckily I don't see any of it on the newspaper I subscribe to, then again I only look at the crossword page but am sure there's some of it there somewhere

Well she does have to keep up with Claire Byrne now, (albeit a younger version of her)
But i had to laff when i heard that discussion & even had yer wan who done it on as well.

It just goes to show that Anton's adaptable, from serious conversations to talking bout American Dad & mixed in with some cheesy music :D

Just heard Antone on the radio for the first time in his slot. Easy listening and seems so natural, he seems to be enjoying himself! Didn't think he was ever amazing covering for Matt Cooper but really like his style on this show.
