Looks like Santi & Cesc both start against Belarus (featuring Alex Hleb!) on ITV4 now.

It could be a good season for Wilshere. The last couple of years, Ramsey was the POY in 2013/14 and he was expected to be a fringe player ala Wilshere now; ditto with Cazorla this year...

Two great goals for Jack that are bound to boost his confidence.
Anyone see Gibbs being bullied for Estonia's second goal? Timid wee beastie ...... miles behind Monrael now and not good enough for Arsenal.

He was shíte for the goal. Gibbs really needs to turn the tide next season. Monreal to be fair was very poor last season but is on fire at present. Gibbs needs to look at this and really up the ante next year. I do think he is a better player then his current form suggests but he is in danger of losing his Arsenal career the way things are currently at.

Good to see the arsenal seconds get a look in at international level

It was very very rare once upon a time for a player to not be first choice for the club and yet start for some of the bigger international countries (like England, Germany, Spain, Italy, Brazil etc) . Times really have changed.

Phil Neville was the only sub I remember starting for Eng- Irwin keeping him out of United's first team

I prefer the first. You get the feeling he could score the first over and over again where as the second is a bit of a fluke. I know the second one is more spectacular, but it's a bit of a swing and hope for the best. Coupled with the bobble it takes before he hits it, its the kind of goal thats a bit of a fluke.

The first goal is pure technique. Coming towards you and still being able to keep it on target with power. Great skill.

Wilshere has looked really sharp since coming back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,770 ✭✭✭emmetlego

He had a lot of time to strike them, and I doubt he'd get that in the EPL, but they were 2 superb strikes. Keep that going Jack, and you'll get us 20 million more when we sell you! :-(

Shad Forsyth has been a huge asset to the recovery of our players.

Agreed. He has lived up to all the hype. We just look so much fitter in general as well.

Weird thing on sky sports this morning.

Cech wants to come but Chelsea will only let him join us in exchange for a homegrown player.

As with everything I'm assuming that it's bullsh1t but it did get me thinking.

There isn't a single player I'd swap for him. Unless like Martinez or someone like that is homegrown.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭Ajfunky

Some of the absolute rubbish on Sky :

"the Gunners could turn to Bender as they look to bolster their options in midfield following the release of injury-plagued Abou Diaby."

Yep, Diaby leaving would be the only reason Arsenal would get another player. Without him our team basically falls apart... DO these people even follow football?!

Who do we think should be captain of the club next season if it looks like Arteta isn't going to be getting his game? Ramsey is starting to look a good shout.. might have him be a bit bossier with his team on the pitch and he looks like he will be with us for a while. It would be nice to have a proper proper captain who is playing most matches and is also one of the best on the team. We have all bemoaned a lack of leadership in the last few seasons, and although players are stepping up in terms of performances, we still don't have the man to drag us through (unless flamini's on... I doubt you want to be seen slacking under his watch!)

    Jenkinson ?

He'd be the only one I'd consider

I'd leave it with Mert and then in a year see who's best out of Kos/Rambo/Coq/Sanchez.

It'll be one of them next IMO but can't tell which yet.

I no he is only at the club 1 season but I would be giving the captaincy to Sanchez. Hes a leader on the pitch and always works his socks off, he would be a great example for others to follow.

I don't know what It Is exactly but I always feel a CB or CM is best suited for the captaincy. I'd like to see Kosc with the armband,

Yep Kosc all day long for me! Although - if that means he will leave or get injured for the season - as with our previous captains, best he doesn't get it!

I don't think his English is the best, so I'd think that'd be a stumbling block.

Sanchez is barely at the club and barely speaks English. There's better candidates out there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,758 ✭✭✭RedemptionZ

I don't think anyone should be given captaincy at a club after only one season, unless it's a very young team and they are the stand out older player. Position doesn't make a difference though. A leader is a leader, no matter where he is playing.

Cazorla for me, the epitome of consistency, gets on great with the rest of the players,at the club for ages now, always gives every game his 100%. Most likely gonna be his last season with us though

He can be very hit and miss for me.

I think Ramsey would make a good captain. He seems like a level headed chap, not lacking in passion either. He was Wales captain at 21 too (although looking back that was probably a bit on the young side),

Is Ramsey a nailed on starter tho with everyone fit? In Wengers eyes like.

I'd say so although a run of poor form could change that. Our midfield is probably our strongest area so a dip in form could see anyone who plays there dropped.

    100% he is.
Not many box to box players like him in the league.

    Mert or Ramsey for captain.

gibbs. i'll end up looking foolish & he'll never get injured again & get in the TOTY, but right now you'd give them gibbs for cech.

    No way.

Gibbs is 25, homegrown and an English international. He would need to be replaced asap and the player would need to be homegrown.

    How much does that cost?

Cech on the other hand is 33 and out of contract in a year. Yeah you'd get 4/5 years out of him but he's not worth causing another issue at LB.

Monreal came to the fore this year but he's 29 ad should be in his prime. We'll get 2/3 more years out of him and should be able to put Gibbs in then and get 3/4 years out of him.

Gibbs is no world class player, but I think he's good. I don't think he deserves the flack he's getting here.

    I don't believe he's improving at all.
Poor in the tackle, poor crosser and poor in the air. Far too timid too imo.
A few years ago I thought he'd make it and slot seamlessly into Clichy's position but for me he has not improved. His frequent injuries could be a factor.

    I don't believe he's improving at all.
His frequent injuries could be a factor.

I've left in what I agree absolutely fully with. A competitive match is worth a thousand training sessions. He has just had the Arsenal bug with injuries, and with Chad working his magic, he should improve, like the rest of the squad... But getting Nacho out could be his biggest problem! Kind of a great position as a club, not so great for Gibbsy!

As for the claim that they want a homegrown in return? Let them go and **** to ****!!! Chec wants out, he wants us, we want him. Simple transaction. Maybe at a push we'd give them 11 million, but if they disregard Cech badly, it will tarnish the reputation amongst fellow professionals. Chelsea know that. He deserves great respect for his service to that club.

*EDIT* Forgot to add, I'd keep Mert as captain if Arteta is to be dropped as captain, but I can't recall AW ever stripping someone of their captaincy...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,453 ✭✭✭batistuta9

gibbs is OK, a decent enough player/squad option but you wouldn't keep him at all costs. i think cech would strengthen arsenal more over the next few seasons than gibbs would - again waiting for this to come back at me

i heard on the bergkamp wonderland podcast few months ago now, that's it's most likely the team with the best defence or 2nd best that wins the league, not the best attacking team or a team with a 30 goal striker/top scorer, that's what i think it started about a 30 a season player.
you'd be better off defensively with cech starting in the team than gibbs, squad wise...
he would need to be replaced asap though you're right. not sure if there's anyone in the youth teams either you could step up like bellerin

he's 3 or 4th choice LB for england though. why do you think you'd need to replace him with another HG player?
last sept. arsenal put in 23 man squad with 8hg players. j.campbell, diaby, flamini & pod amongst the non hg, with ox & sanogo (if he stays) the only ones to come up i think. so there's room for foreigners

i haven't really followed the cech story (or any) really, but i'd still be a bit surprised if arsenal signed him, primarily because of wengers history with the position. Is it a rumour or is there something in it?

I wasn't suggesting we give Gibbs to Chelsea at all. I was just commenting on his general performance as I see it.
I wouldn't give Chelsea anyone for that matter.
