Laptop giving problems. Any help greatly appretd

Hello all,

I wonder if there are any computer whizzes who can help me.

I am experiencing problems from my Samsung Notebook model number NP 355 V5C. 2 years old.

Basically, the Laptop cuts out after having been plugged in for a short time and this is related to heat, as this machine is very hot.

I have opened the machine and performed a light vacuum inside but it still cuts out.

I recently bought a new charger ( non Samsung) but which has worked for it.

Any ideas about what is wrong would be great appreciated. I know very little about computers

Sounds like the charger is delivering an incorrect charge which is causing the laptop to overheat and shutdown. The solution providing nothing else is damaged is to buy a new charger, one that matches the specifications required by the laptop.

Have you tried turning it off and then back on again?

Test the charger with a multimeter to rule it out but most likely overheating due to either dust or probably the CPU needs thermal paste replacement.

Are you 100% certain the voltage matches the original on the replacement charger. Alternatively if the wattage is not high enough on the replacement it may not be able to charge and power the laptop at the same time.

It could be related to the charger but its likely that the CPU heatsink needs some new paste. Either that, or the fan is clogged or not functioning properly.

I would have thought that an overheating CPU would lead to the shutdowns but not physical heating of the laptop itself as mentioned by the OP?

I'd say a cooling vent full of fluff will cause the whole machine to heat up, eventually affecting the CPU. Bad thermal paste will affect the CPU quicker.

OP, the cooling system of a laptop includes a thing very like a car radiator. In some environments this can get blocked by a carpet of fluff. Very like what you'd clean from a tumble dryer. Its important to remove this. Youtube may have videos to show disassembly procedures for your laptop. Some are easy to get to, some require complete disassembly.

My own laptop was overheating and shutting down. The bottom got very hot. I installed temperature monitoring software that showed CPU temps going to 100degrees then shutting down.

I used a can of compressed air on the fan and sink areas and temperatures dropped by 10-20 degrees. No shutdowns now but I think a proper internal clean and replacing paste will bring it back to normal.
