As I said, I don't expect many to agree. It really depends on the type of captain you are happy with. If you want something from your captain every week, then Costa is a great bet. He'll get a goal most times, but will rarely explode and will rarely get any bonus. Should get you a decent 6 points.

I don't like captains like that. I avoid them. I like the captain choice that could explode with goals and assists when up against a weak team at home. Costa is not that player. Not by a long shot.

Apart from today and the WHU game a few weeks back, he has had very poor returns as a captain choice since September.

    12, 17, 11 and 13 are his big GWs.

    Sanchez's weeks in excess of 10 are 13, 16, 16, 19.

    Hazard 14.

    Silva 16, 14.

    Fab 11, 14.

    Aguero 19,13,16.

I got bored checking. The point about him being unlikely to explode isn't really reflected in the above.

    A timeline for my afternoon

15.00 Go to see a two hour play.

    17.10 Check scores

17.11 Remember that I swapped out Costa for Aguero.

17.11 Make this face -

    17.12 Make this face - :(

17.15 Think at least my Southampton defence will hold solid. Turn off phone for a while

    18.31 Check scores again.

18.32 Make this face again :(

It sorta is, when anyone who watches Chelsea knows they more often than not this season shut up shot at 2-0, there haven been many many examples of it this season.

For the record, i don't see Costa as been a horrible choice at all, and i think they beat Swansea 4-0 earlier in the season, so was always chance of a repeat. likewise i don't see Aguero as a good choice - for many reasons already given, but no doubt if he scores bucket loads tomorrow we'll hear about it.

Good to get a discussion going today interesting to hear a few different views if everyone agreed it would be a pretty boring game!

Jesus. I'm on 34 and have four to play (Wisdom, Sanchez, Aguero and Downing) and FFFix are predicting a drop of over 10k places. I can't escape the 100k mark.

    SEND HELP.

He is a good player to have in FPL because he trickles points every week in the same way Fabregas (another good pick) does.

However, every week he would easily be third or fourth choice as my captain if he was in there for someone like Austin.

Look at the FFS poll. 7.5% of the vote. That's also based on the fact that 60% have him.

    Look at the boards.ie poll...9%.

Most plumped for Kane or Aguero. I think, given their respective fixtures, they are better captain choices.

Most people (and I think we have established this here recently) just go with the top choice, therefore those stats are meaningless to me.
No way on earth was Kane a better choice than Costa this week, I have him and never considered it for a second. If I had Aguero it would have been a tough choice.
Are you on Kane or Aguero.

Fair play to you for putting the cat amongst the pigeons, I absolutely respect your logic but I don't necessarily agree with it, you practically called me a fool:pac:

I'm on 31 (pre BPS) with Augero, Sanchez and Silva to play. I thought that would have been a fairly good score?

No I apologize, it was a harsh word to say horrible. I just felt there were statistically better options out there.

The avoidance of captains like Costa has served me very well over the last 6 seasons so it's engrained in me :D

but that's what makes it great :)

An awful lot of people outside the top 10k will have Costa captained, 34 would be a better score if you were higher placed bizzarely

    Elia again

He's on loan but has a poor enough scoring record (4 in 66 for parent club)

I think this weekend may be the time I get to within single digits of my pay league leader!

20 points behind at the moment. He has Sanchez and Clichy.

I have Foster, Sanchez and Aguero (c)

Certainly it's an average score and I'd be doing fine if I was ranked higher, but maybe the 100k area is populated with people who captained Costa or something? I dunno. I've taken a monstrous fall in the last four weeks (before that I hovered around 30-40k) and I'm finding it difficult to claw my way out. :o

The FF gods are truly cruel. Been out all day, just flicked over to the site, clicked on Points, showed me 66. Delighted for about five seconds when the penny dropped that it's stuck on last week. Not refreshing for me for some reason.

I remember him from some of the international tournaments. He looked decent for Holland. Very quick.

    Cheers lads...

Left Siggy on in the end... Next week will be WC time so no more pain chosing my front 7.

    -

This GW terrifies the sh*t out of me.

Decided to follow my plan WC-wise and did not play it. Aguero's early return is a blow to my mid-term plan and raises all the doubt about him getting injured again. It almost made me think that for once it'd be better to get him in at a dearer price to be more flexible for when he'll inevitably get injured again  :pac:... I don't wish it at all but this is so wrongly much looking like last year at the same time. If it does happen Pellegrini and his staff will be to blame no end! I mean it's not a game for them to decide their front 7 !

So I line up like this in the end
    Hart
    Zab Terry Wasi
    Hazard (VC) Sanchez Silva Siggy
    Austin Costa Kane (C)
    Elliott ; Sterling, Wisdom, Naylor
Double City defence is a recipe for murder but couldn't justify a hit for it. My transfer this week was Wasi for Yun.
Bottled it with my (C) in the end after having left it on Hazard all week. But Kane did impress me every time I watched him play and if he delivers I'd be losing a huge amount of ground with his (C) %.

A GW to follow behind the couch hoping everything turns OK before I finally WC...

Looks like I was right to be terrified :(... If Aguero gets a stormer tomorrow could be (in some way) the end of my season (I mean it'll be close to impossible to reach let's say top 5k).

Captains decisions have and are ruining my season so far... I don't have too many regrets this week since I honestly didn't consider Costa and only lost 1 pt to Hazard. But still...

What is for "absolutelyness" sure is I'll never ever ever ... ever (!!!) go with the strong front 8. I did it since GW17 thinking upgrading Ameobi for Christmas was a good idea ... Well:
GW 17 - Siggy (did not play)
GW 18 - Siggy (11 pts) vs Sakho (1 pt) (my last min swap in for Sakho did not go through)
GW 19 - Sakho (2 pts) vs Eriksen (3 pts)
GW 20 - Sakho (6 pts) vs Siggy (2 pts) or Sterling (5 pts)
GW 21 - Sterling (did not play)
GW 22 - Sterling (looks like 9 pts) vs Siggy (2 pts)
The only times I got it right was when one of my front 8 did not play  :o... And if it's only for a 1 pt gain (GW 19) what's the point?

I was saying it beforehand I should have been stubborn on that one, it just simply doesn't work. The amount of pts you gain (over a cheapie bench fodder) when you're right is not worth the one you lose on your bench.

Now need some kind of miracle from Hart, Zab & Silva to rescue my GW. Don't believe for a second that will happen so will just ask for Sergio not to destroy me tomorrow :o...

FFFix have the average at 39 points, top 1k average at 34 points. Aguero will probably decide whether I get a green or red this week.

I can't agree with you here at all. Costa is the top goalscorer in the Premier League. Totalling 17 goals from the 19 games he has played. This is an extremely impressive tally. Was Swansea away a particularly plum fixture? No. Has Costa been putting together braces lately? No.

But you have to look at the alternatives. Kane is an extremely ordinary player/goalscorer in comparison to the big hitters of this game and has half the goal tally of Costa, and has broken the 1 goal tally in a game once, in a Premier League game. Ever. Was he on form? Yes. Did that mean that I put him in my wildcard team even though I don't actually rate him as a potential big hitter long-term? Yes. Would I ever dream of captaining Harry Kane? No. Costa or Aguero with a bad fixture ahead of Kane with a good fixture. They are always likely to pop up with a goal, which is as much as Kane is ever likely to get.

Aguero on the other hand, the Daddy of this game. Will be my captain for many of the remaining weeks of this season, but this week he was a beacon of uncertainty. Will he start? I don't know, I think so, but I wouldn't swear to it. Will he complete longer than 60 minutes? Probably not. Will he be 100% and the Aguero that we're gonna get pretty soon? Definitely not.

I can find reasons why you might go for Kane (form), Aguero (pure class), but Costa was the safe choice this week. I wasn't expecting 16 points from Costa, obviously not, but he was much more likely to break the 2 point mark than the other guys, and there were no midfielders that came into the discussion this week.

He only said it yesterday to me and I didn't get on here last night. I'm really regretting not leaving the captaincy on Costa after I changed it to him this morning.

I'm also regretting allowing the prospect of a potential price fall make me go with Speroni as opposed to Begovic.

Why wasnt Di Maria entitled to an assist from James Wilson goal today? .. (Di Maria passed to Willson who shot, GK saved and it went back to Wilson who scored) .. They don't seem to count it as an assist to anyone.

You answered your own question ;).

Wilson shot. GK saved. Wilson scored. So it's a Wilson assist. Technically impossible by the game rules. So no assist.

    Nope they don't count rebounds!
Just to be precise. They do if it's a different player e.g. ADM shot. GK saved. Wilson scored the rebound. ADM assist.

Pb today is Wilson scored his own rebound. Can't get the assist for his own goal so no assist is given.

Trippier and Terry the only ones to do a thing.
