    Do you need just 7 seats or 7 seats plus space for luggage? Something like a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso or Renault Grand Scenic are probably what's in your budget. These will have small 1.5/1.6 diesel engines though which will struggle loaded with people and luggage.

    But seriously people put motor tax at the top of their criteria too often while forgetting that they are paying thousands extra to buy the car in order to save small money in annual motor tax.

    +1

    Do not set the tax rate as the deciding factor in your choice.

    Motor Tax is one of the cheapest components in running a car. The biggest costs are the purchasing costs, depreciation, fuel, insurance and maintenance

    Thanks for de advice but due to one income we run a tight ship so wit loan and a bit each month for maintenance I'll find it hard to fork out €500 + for tax at de end of de year!!

    What happens if the turbo goes, or you need injectors, or a dual mass flywheel?
    You can tax quarterly. You don't need to do it all in one go.

    We ve always had Nissan Toyota ford in de past wit no probs the most we ever paid was €1400 for a new gear box on a primers . I suppose we are so used to paying tax and insurance as one bill we don't think of doing it monthly as we have enough monthly bills !
    Will Have 4kids under 10 hence reason for bigger car ! Tks for advice

    All I'm saying is don't spend more on monthly loan payments just to get cheaper tax. Allow a financial cushion for mechanical maladies.

    @op,

    How many miles a year do you do?

  • Registered Users Posts: 105 ✭✭alibride

    Only do about 18000k per year so maybe don't need a diesel just some economical if that's possible

    Very few large 7 seaters available in petrol and any would tend to be thirsty.

    The older model Mazda 5s were available in petrol, although technically more a 6 seater than 7.

    Honda FRV also available in petrol.
