Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I know the race calendar is up on the CI web-site but does anyone know if there's any more user friendly listing of A4 races in particular?

The CI calendar's torture to navigate and if there was anywhere with the races listed and their locations it'd be a lot handier to try and plan which to race! Cheers

Pretty much all the promotions have an A4 race, so when scanning it make that assumption.

Don't think you'll find anything more user-friendly at a national level, although Cycling Ulster do list their races in excel spreadsheet form where it's very easy to see when and where races are on for all different categories

The CI Yearbook is probably an easier way of scanning through the race (and Leisure) calendar,

Plus its worth checking in on here each week,as nearly every race weekend will have a preview of the course and how it panned out last year. And be prepared to read about crashes/negative racing/riders over the solid white line etc etc when it comes to A4 racing.

You can also look up the race on CI, then google the name with strava (e.g. Laragh classic A4 strava) and you'll get the topography and speed of the race. Then click on to Boards and read about who caused the crash.

Please, for the love of God, do not ask about crashes that occurred in a race on this forum or we will never hear the end of it. Isn't that right Beasty?

    You have been warned!

I'd imagine this applies to all race categories. OP if you plan on racing prepare for the inevitable events that go along with it. The pointy end is not for the faint hearted or shy/retiring types.

Finding a race is one thing. Finding other details, like what time it starts, where it starts, where the sign on is, is often quite difficult.
This is probably not CI's fault - the promoters probably don't give that information -the presume 'everybody knows'.

The CI website event application process does allow quite a lot of info to be provided. However applications for events is encouraged (theoretically required) by the end of September when some of the info may not be available. It is possible to update details and if you search for events within the CI system (rather than the calendar) there may be more info available.

That's also where the likes of Boards and Facebook can be very useful, although I will again mention Cycling Ulster as a great example where they do tend to publish quite a lot about forthcoming events on their website

A3 racing is just as bad, with the exception of being less negative than A4.

No difference between the two. There is more quality riding when you get to A1/A2 as the best riders and riders with most ability will make it to these groups.

There's also far, far smaller bunches in A1/2 which helps mitigate alot of the problems you see in A3/4

I have no idea what this means. Do you mean use the 'search' function'?

If you log onto the CI portal and click onto "Event booking" you will see a list of upcoming events (no races at present, but the Cuchulainn CC New Years Eve TT was up there a few weeks ago for example)

What I don't know at this stage is whether clubs will be required to re-enter details of events they are putting on but it does look like clubs will be encouraged to allow entry via the portal. It was an option available when my own club entered details of the CX nationals but by then we had already made other arrangements

It will be interesting to see the extent to which this system develops over the forthcoming season - I'm not sure but it may well be the ability to apply to participate in events is a new feature

There is though within this system the ability to add to or otherwise amend the details of the event included within the portal

How much is a one day license for a race or are they available?

Last year they were available until the start of April. And about 10 yoyos or so. Not sure if that's repeated this year.

Available until April 1st again this year.
Will depend on race organisers getting the paperwork from CI.
€20 if not a holder of a CI licence
€10 if a holder of a LC or NC licence

I have been told that there is no backlog of applications. Similar to last year with rate agreements with An Post, licences are being posted out in bulk with the printed handbooks which were also due in this week.
So everybody should have their physical licence well in advance of the first race. Only thing preventing you from getting your licence on time is if your club has yet to affiliate for 2015. Licences won't be distributed until affiliation has taken place with your club.
