The eejit makes a smart comment when asked if a lotto ad would be ok, but yet he spent the opening 15 minutes going on about it trying to track the winner down.

The man has no self awareness.

Lack of 'joined up' thinking alright!

Until such time as the winners decide to go public the media should lay off.

There's no way I would ever go public if I won, you would be hounded by the media if you started to blow the money and similarly hounded if you decided to stay in your normal house and not blow the money, your family might become at risk of being kidnapped and you would have no end to begging letters looking for the few bob.

    Paul?
Paul Murphy? He's good at the old writing and the odd exaggeration!

Suspect Ray's line will be hopping with landlords seeking to put the other side of difficulties that can arise.

A friend of mine won 4 million in 09. He didn't go public but everyone who knew him knew the story. He reckons, even without going public, there are still begging letters and phonecalls to this day.

I don't listen to D'Arcy but I am aware of the running joke re. him and his inability to press the right buttons in the studio. I caught the last 20 seconds or so of the show yesterday as I was flicking through the stations and sure enough he pressed the wrong button to finish the show then clumsily fumbled around looking for the correct one whilst mumbling something like "oh that's not it, sorry about that, is it this one?".

    My question are:
    Is he really this bad?
Was he this bad in Today FM?
Are the RTE studios so advanced/backward that they confuse the hell out of him.
Also, how hard could it be? I mean if Joe Duffy can manage it......

You reminded me of the Cavan man on telling his wife that they had just won a few million in the lotto, she asked 'but what about the begging letters?'
    He said, 'keep sending them'

    Is he really this bad?

    Yes

Was he this bad in Today FM?

Yes in the last few years he was like he is now and is now getting worser (sigh)

Havent got a clue but knowing RTE its probably advanced for them but 1970s tech for the BBC

Some things shall remain a mystery for all eternity, so to speak

Problem was though in the early years on Today FM his show used to be fun. Then he started trying to tackle serious topics and became an awful grump as the years went on.

    Is he really this bad?
Seems to be, I at times wonder is he deliberately messing up pressing the buttons in some kind of running joke from his first day on the job almost a year ago, surely it can't be that hard to do. It would be interesting to know if any of the backroom team from Mooneys day were kept in place or were they all replaced?
Was he this bad in Today FM?
I did tune in to him some years back while he was on Today FM, they would have a Fix It Friday slot of a Friday that was sometimes interesting as I suppose it had a structure and plan to the show. He actually played good music on his Today FM show but I suppose he did have 3 hours to get through so time allowed more variety. However in the last few years before he joined RTÉ he started to go on and on about healthy living, fitness, hatred for catholic church, hatred for people having a few pints, hatred for RTÉ and talking about his kids all the time as if nobody had ever had kids before. The decline seemed to occur in or around the time he said he would leave the country if Fine Gael got in to power, perhaps that's where it all went downhill.
Are the RTE studios so advanced/backward that they confuse the hell out of him.
I would say they are relics of the bronze age compared to modern studios like he had in Today FM, however if you compare him to when Joe handed over to Mooney I don't recall their being the same issue so clearly someone isn't learning the task. Some months back there was a photo of a lad and his mother in with Joe Duffy and you could see a 14 inch massive CRT on the wall that they were using, it wouldn't have been possible to buy one of these for the last 10 years plus, makes the place look backward yet it's financed to the hilt.
Also, how hard could it be? I mean if Joe Duffy can manage it......
The Great One has a specialist team behind him so to speak.

In fairness to him, most of his mistakes in Today FM boiled down to playing the start of a song when he should go to ad-break or similar. This, I could understand. He was running his own desk, and probably isn't the best at multi-tasking, so when an interview went on a little longer than expected, quiet easy to just hit play, realise you don't have time for the song, then hit next to go to the ad break.

However, in RTE, I can't really understand it. It's not as if he's playing 5-6 songs an hour like he was. Surely his producers have all the ad breaks and imaging lined up, it should just be a case of hitting next-next-next all the way through (simplification obviously, but by and large this is what it boils down to).

What has always perplexed me is that he has never just got someone else to run the desk for him. I mean, if he's not comfortable enough using it to not make multiple mistakes every day, why not remove the variable and concentrate on presenting? I mean, none of the NT presenters run the desk for their shows, and largely the shows are very tight.

Jesus the lad on operation tranformation has to pull out of the show and was in hospital. And Ray pulled him on a bottle of Coke. He's a misery guts isn't he ?

Darcy is unreal. He said that operation transformation was criticised in the Irish Time's. Yet he completely ignores his own failed efforts on tv or fails to talk about it. What a smug twat.

The knives are sharp again today I see..

edited to add: mind you, I sincerely hope Ray never becomes the Minister for Health! The Nanny State would take on a whole new dimension.

I vaguely remember Ray criticising Operation Transformation when he was back at Today FM. It was about how the contestants have to wear unflattering lycra and no make up, while Kathryn Thomas and the specalists are done up to the nines to look as good as possible.

Just shows how hypocritical he is.

Well he's making hay with the Lotto win again today... despite having expressed serious doubts over gambling a few days ago.

Ray: 'England versus Ireland, who do you reckon the FG people would be supporting?'

Ray said it - he's a simpleton civil war era simpleton troll who lest we forget killed the 3:30 nuacht
