I just heard a bit at the start.

"Big round of applause for Eileen Dunne."

For what?? Reading the news headlines.

Just catching the end of programme - multiple rounds of applause!!!

What is it about D'Arcy's liking for Irish navel-gazing bands? Must be a mutual-appreciation thing.

He's trying to be hip for the kids yo.

Ray being patronising twice within the first few minutes.

Eating on the radio. Good man Ray.

This is like a childhood swimming game of 'how long can you stay underwater'.

I lasted until Ray started chewing a fruitcake whilst speaking, and gave up. Don't think I've ever made it to 3.15pm.

Are his JNLR figures still rising?

The Kildare guy wouldn't be aware of the goings on at the business end of the football championships.

What's a 'palka'? Kinda doubt somehow if Ray knows his jigs from his reels or his polkas for that matter..

Just don't get it. If this fella is still growing in the ratings I must have completely lost it. He actually makes me uncomfortable with his cringe inducing awkwardness.

    Over to Tom Dunne.

Darcys attempt at a gag ' youre the best crowd we have had in cork this week ' went down like a lead balloon .

Ray is down 6,000 listeners since the last book, but he's still up massively on this time last year.

I would caution against lighting fireworks running around the bonfires naked though, could very easily be a blip, and I'd wait for at least 2 more books before making any call on whether this has been a good move for RTE or Ray.

I can tell ya now, Dubya, not a good move, I say, not a good move.

He could loose a hundred thousand punters and it wouldn't matter much. Reputations have been staked on this working by men and women in suits who have large pension pots coming to them one day. It will not be changed.

Has the wife left the programme?

    Anyone?

Heard that but things picked up. Colm O'Regan was very good, sharp and on the ball as regards local sparring. By contrast, there was someone called Bibi who seemed to have her head stuck entirely up ....., what's with retired RTE 'stars'?

Someone called bibi ?? She was the farmers choice in her time. Fine looking red head older woman but he accent is a bit annoying for a Donegal woman. Don't find colm o Regan funny has spent too long in d4

Turn off when COR is on radio - same style of "humour"

Did you hear the interviews today with above today??? Bibi was all about some Indian religion she's picked up on and how she's writing a book to bring the message to us all etc etc. Blathered on at some stage about fulfilling your dreams - all well enough for a person of means like herself. O'Regan by contrast, was sharp and on the ball.

Dont usually find him funny at all, but he was good yesterday. It's always very obvious that he has a fixed routine about particular topics, and the conversation is very deliberately and obviously changed to the topics that suit him. Seems a little more natural with other comedians.

Ray is so rude to guests / members of audience , no time for Pauline mc Lynn( met her once ) but he was not nice to woman promoting food festival - slagging her about way she announced it - he really is unprofessional and a jerk !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭BarryD

Agreed he was a bit short with that lady but if you listen to any presenter doing a live show, you'll find a few bum notes like that. On the whole though, D'Arcy is not rude to his guests or the public. That's not how you become popular and despite the bitchiness of several posters here, D'Arcy is popular with the public :)

"Lord have mercy on him." says Ray who doesn't believe in religion.

It's almost as if growing up in a country where that phrase is bandied about all the time, and being educated in a Catholic education system leaves lasting patterns on someone's phraseology.

    Beg to differ.
And he is extremely rude, rushing people along just so he can take an ad break.
He is useless at scheduling his time, most unprofessional presenter on radio.

The only reason he has a cohort of listeners is people of an older age group who listen to liveline and afterwards don't bother 'moving the dial'

But they will...he lost a chunk of listeners in the latest poll...he will continue to lose more.

He tends to forget himself at times, sure he still gives out the Today FM number..

Not as when you are as vocal as Ray about religion.

I think half the time it has to be put on though. Just look at how many times he presses wrong buttons and messes up. Surely after all this time he would know he basics.

A real atheist would have said "May your Lord have mercy"

With obvious emphasis on the word "your".
