D'Arcy interviewing a female Catholic Bishop.

Chilli tasting really makes for great radio doesn't it..

With any luck his tongue will swell up and he'll have to take the rest of the week off

I read through some of the interview from the RTE pages, who as usual have made a headline story out of absolutely nothing.

    http://www.rte.ie/sport/olympics/2016/0809/808013-paddy-barnes/

But one thing that I thought was unusual was this part of the interview with Ray D'arcy.
Cutting weight is part of life for boxers, but Barnes revealed a particularly onerous weigh-in and fight schedule may have contributed to his defeat.
“This is the first time ever I’ve weighed in in the morning and fought a few hours later,” he revealed. Usually, I weigh in in the morning and have the whole day to recover and fight that night. I think that played a part too in my energy levels. I weighed in at eight o’clock and I fought at half eleven. It’s a very, very small window to hydrate yourself and build yourself up.”

Surely they would have been getting used to cutting weight in the morning with a view to doing it on the day of the Olympic fights. I mean even GAA teams stay in the same hotel a few weekends before the All Ireland final to get used to it. Did he only find out that the fights were on early the week before?

    I didn't know that.

Is that across the board, or just maybe Kilkenny? (has a whiff of Brian Cody about it)

So Ray is a Garth Brooks fan ?

    Why aren't I surprised ...

Wait, what?!? Ray did a bit of gymnastics himself??

Anyone else find Ray so much more bearable when there's guests in the studio that he can have banter with? At least he can gauge people's reactions from their body language.

Might be really cringey banter but at least it's something.

He had a right good go today at the pokemon go lad he is such an intolarent bully interview was very similar to pamela anderson he then only read out nasty comments and asked why the guy was out of work. We are not all able to walk back into a 500k job that you suck at bullyboy.
It is beyond me who really listens to him i suspect near dead prople the dead and county council buildings on tanoy

How long before he asks Sharon about her partner that died a few years ago.

Would it have been too much to ask to bring it to the Croke Park staff on the day?

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,420 ✭✭✭✭sligojoek

Is she on helium or voice disguising software?

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,420 ✭✭✭✭sligojoek

Is he a Healy - Rae?

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,420 ✭✭✭✭sligojoek

    "Is Eithne still alive?"

    "Yeah. She's fine."

Ray raging he didn't get a poignant story out of it.

Dunno, did he? Why do you try to project misery porn on Ray? - that's Duffy's ground. Her music leaves me a bit cold though - too tricksy.

Well if there was an Olympic Sport for bandwagon jumping the Irish would be favourites for gold already having secured World and Olympic records in the sport.

    High maintenance I'd suspect.

Hasn't everyone jumped on that bandwagon? Jesus, give the guy an even break. If he didn't cover the rowing, you'd be telling us that he has head stuck up his arse!

Talk to Joe 1850 had already spent 90 mins babbling on about it speaking to people in Rio who wanted to do anything else but talk to him at that exact time.

She came across as a bit vulnerable - not sure if she will be suited to the show.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,402 ✭✭✭goochy

A bit vulnerable I don't know ? Say she has issues alrite - know she has depression but she'd go through you in a hearbeat. Just sounded cold and tough.

You did, after getting a week not too long ago. This must be why he moved back to RTE cause most of the presenters seem to have a lot more time off than the regular folk......:(

I'm just going to bring back two posts from June 16th...

+10 for the two weeks. If he doesn't take a full two weeks, please correct this (I don't listen much at all, so I'm unlikely to hear the show in the next two weeks).

    Total: 22 Days

The average in Ireland is 20 days according to my extensive research (i.e Googleing "Average Annual Leave Ireland" and taking the first result :P). This isn't including public holidays (which I haven't been including in my tally either). Source -> http://www.newstalk.com/Irish-workers-get-less-holidays-than-EU-counterparts

I'd guess he's entitled to 30-35 days, so another two weeks towards the end of the year and maybe a day here and there as well.

TBH, I wouldn't find 30-35 that unreasonable. I mean, he is a star that they head-hunted from their competitors, so it's pretty reasonable to assume there were some perks thrown into his contract.

So if he takes another two weeks now, that would be:

    +10
    Total: 32 Days

Looks like I'm not going to be far off. :P :)

He is in line with the others to be fair, whats their excuse?...RTE policy I suppose !!

We 're digressing into danger territory here now.........:D

How do RTE always manage to get the worst deal for the listener and the taxpayer? Marty did a fantastic job when he was in that slot. And Brendan O'Connor was great on the Saturday night show. But RTE decide pay D'Arcy a fortune to tell us all about excessive wages and incompetence in public services.... While himself being paid a f**king fortune for doing nothing but hitting the wrong buttons and collecting awards from the BAI.
