I asked this before, but does anyone know how many that is now since he joined RTE?

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,511 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

I emailed Ray during the show yesterday with a simple question. "please ask the young girl if she ever thought twice about getting pregnant again"

Of course I knew it would never be read out.

I would say there were thousands of people listening to that show yesterday muttering to themselves "why continue to have kids if you have no job, no prospects, no home, no partner" and waiting for it to be asked by a highly paid, supposedly professional interviewer and broadcaster. No chance of the numpty doing it though. Would hate to come across as cruel or callous. He's a man of the people you see, like Duffy, the other champagne socialist millionaire.

    three complaints

Third time a complaint has been upheld on the same topic aswell. You'd think theyd have kept a close eye after the 1st complaint and reined in on the 2nd complainr

Did ray read out an apology or mention the bai ruling? I heard him lash straight away into a pontification on drink driving and booze

Darcy preaching again, on how yesterday's homeless programme has changed him.

Won't change the fees he takes from the licence payer, though.

I think Ray only organises a party so that it gives him another opportunity to pontificate to people about drink driving.

Ray: "Mary, how many have you had, I'll get you a taxi".
Mary: "Ray, shove it up your h0le, you pious little pr1ck"

Balance now needs to be provided even on human interest stories. Jesus wept.

If this was a pro choice group complaining ad nauseum, you'd bet your bottom dollar there'd be criticism such as 'liberal thought police strikes again', while these prolife types get to dictate what can or can't be talked about without wheeling one of them out.

From reading the report, seems it was a human interest story, but Ray managed to put his own slant on it, and promote his own agenda.

Ray was amazed at Noddy and also Shane Mc Gowan getting 600k in royalties , from the man getting 500k for crap.

he says Shane must be getting all the money , but surely Kirstys family would get money too ?

She didn't write it so her estate would only get performance royalties. The song was originally going to be a duet between Shane and the bass player Cait O'Riordan but the producer Steve Lillywhite was married to Kirsty at the time and he drafted her in.

If he bothered his hole to do a bit of research he'd learn that the song was co-written by Pogues banjo player, Jem Finer.

Also so he can wake people up at 7 a.m. and suggest an early morning 5k to work off the calories and the hangover from the night before

All royalties for FONY are, from what i gather, shared between the Pogues and the Kirsty MacColl estate. The only exception are cover versions for which the royalties then go to the songwriters. That's as once explained by the late Philip Chevron.

Just on this, it's possible that the statement wasn't scheduled for today. When a complaint is upheld, the BAI give a specific time when the statement is to be broadcast. (Knowledge gained during the Psychic Readings Live days will live with me forever... :o )

Ray gets 10 grand a week of our money, pretty sickening when you think about it.

Here're some stats that'll really boil your piss:

If Ray were to work every week day of the year (52 weeks), he'd actually only be on air for 390 hours in a year, approximately 10 weeks work for most people.

If he was being paid by the hour for that, he'd be earning €1282 per hour, that'd be >€1900 per show.

EDIT: Actually, considering he has taken 38 days holidays, I'll subtract 7 weeks from the 52, leaving 45. He's on air approximately 337.5 hours in a year. That's €1481.48 per hour. :pac:

(Obviously he works more than the 90 minutes of his show, and also works a number of Saturdays in the year, but as that would require a lot more maths, I can't be bothered really. :P)

D'Arcy must surely hold the record at this stage? How many do you have to get before you get suspended, has it ever happened before?

I don't think it's within the BAI's remit to suspend. AFAIK, they can force the broadcaster to broadcast an apology. I think they can fine the broadcaster, but I'm not sure.

Basically you more or less need the broadcaster to get embarrassed by the number of upheld complaints before real action is taken. IIRC, the Boardsies involved in the PRL days got something like 15-20 upheld before the show was pulled, and that was after a concerted campaign.

Trust me, making complaints to the BAI and getting them upheld is an extremely tedious process because both the broadcaster and BAI will drag it on as long as possible in the hopes that you'll just piss off.

Was I dreaming it or did I hear the bould Ray lamenting the fact he wasn't getting enough sleep due to his heavy workload just a few weeks back? Please somebody tell me I dreamt that. It's out there even by his own lamentably low standards.

I wonder what Jenny is now that she is not at home minding the children. Fuqin hell, RTE is a sick joke. I wonder what it would take for big numbers of people not to pay the licence fee. That would be a legitimate form of protest as RTE is misrepresenting itself, it's not a service.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

I think it will be interesting to see RTE's accounts. Part of me thinks that they are paying Ray 500k a year, but it's to his production company and that Jenny and Will would maybe be employees of Ray. So effectively the 500k is 3 salaries. Speculation obvs.

But that wouldn't happen, because it's obvious to everybody that D'Arcy stands firmly in the pro-abortion camp, so he'd clearly never do anything to antagonise his like-minded liberal buddies.

D'Arcy should be precluded from having anything to do with the abortion debate or having any issues dealing with abortion featured on his programme. He clearly isn't capable of being impartial or objective.

No they text the show while driving a 40 ft artic on the motorway (sometime while in floods of tears).

And then Ray gives out about a fella driving two miles down the road after drinking two pints.
