I'm with D'Arcy on this one. Why should we have to listen to totally incomprehensible babble called Nuacht? No one has a clue what it means. Should be confined to whatever offshore island it comes from.

    That's a different argument altogether.

While its still there, he shouldn't act such an ar$e.

I'm with D'Arcy on this one.

You are with D’arcy on what one? Being arrogant, unprofessional, inconsiderate, incompetent and most likely in breach of crontactual duties.

Because that’s the point that’s being made. There are a sh*t ton of Irish language hate threads on boards some long standing and more often than not pop up every few days...why not vent there for a bit?

It doesn't matter if the news is in Polish or Mandarin. If it's scheduled to be on at 4,00 then it should be on at 4,00. Anyone can run 10 or 20 seconds over time but 6 or 7 minutes is another thing. He was there one day with Lorraine Keane telling us how she loves buying and doing up houses up to 4,02. There's an 18in diameter clock on his wall FFS.

He's obviously doing it to show how much sway and power he carries in RTe.

    No other reason......small man syndrome.

I soppose if it's called the Ray D'Arcy show, he should decide what goes on it.

Not if various broadcasts, news, weather and the like, are scheduled for particular times. The News at 1.00 being the prime example.
A timetable is just that, and people will tune in to listen to broadcasts because they know what time they are going to be at. Pointless tuning in at 4pm, expecting to hear the news, only to find yourself listening to Ray talking or a song playing. You'd think you'd missed it, or you got the time wrong. Are you going to keep listening just in case it comes on late !
Maybe if enough people complained to RTE on this basis, then something could be done.
I don't blame Ray, I blame his producer.

It would be OK if the news was in English. It seems to me like a gaelgoir agenda that we all have to listen to Nuacht. No one understands a word of it. He doesn't like it because he probably loses listeners because of it.

    I understand it. Plenty do.

I would be the last person to defend the Irish Language, it was beaten into me as a child in school, and in all those years I know nothing of it. I detest it with every fibre of my being, I've had countless arguments with teachers over the years, because I am unable to help my children with homework, and I care less to be honest.
However, I do respect that many people around the country do speak it, and do want to hear it on radio and TV. If it's scheduled to be on at a certain time then that's the time it should be on, plain and simple. Maybe enough people don't complain to RTE about it.

I could have written what you say. However, isn't there an Irish radio and TV station to cater for the Irish speakers? Do they have English news programmes on radio na Gaeltachta?

The whole idea of an Irish (language) radio station is that it provides a broad brand of subjects to a mostly Irish speaking audience. Having an Irish language news broadcast, for a few minutes a day on the 'national radio' station is not too much to ask, is it ?
Being neither a fan, of Irish or D'arcy, does not take from the fact that he should allow the broadcast to be aired at the time allocated.
It seems to me, it's like it's his way of 'protesting' about the Nuacht being on in the first place.

would say Oweneybaloney might be a friend of Rays ,

So Farcy has outside lights up as well as indoor tree up and decorated, as they were confined to home at weekend due to an illness. Ray had old-fashioned lights which didn’t work, andctried to get replacement bulb from hardware shop. Think he had to splash out on whole set of new led lights. Ray prefers coloured, Jenny plain white. Anybody (not listening to radio) guess which variety of lights are twinkling in Chateau Darcy? Yes, you’ve guessed right.

Owney has very strong catholic views, don't think himself and Ray would see eye to eye

16:02 Finishes nattering with Conor Pope about consumer issues and then "we have one more set of ads to take before the Nuacht"
    Ads
    16:05 Nuacht

He's consistent, I'll give him that

Caught beginning of today's show-he is still talking about Jenny & Kate (who is sick). HATE presenters talking about their families repeatedly

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,422 ✭✭✭goochy

so they they just read out any letters ? no quality control ?
woman wants to know if its normal to have toaster in a cupboard - is this the best he can come up with ?
noticed how Ray had to say something when one of the calender girls said ' we ' should be proud of Gary Barlow - can he not let anything go ?
Des Cahill is sound fella - he couldnt believe Ray was going to check if about dates when he might have got it wrong - sad man

I generally start speaking about my wife and child when I have absolutely f*ck all else interesting to say, feel slightly inadequate and am trying to garner some support and interest from whatever poor bollocks is listening to me. I think rays the same except he has a few hundred thousand and rapidly falling listeners. It’s just a very feeble attempt to make yourself more human, likeable, loveable, popular. I’ll put my hand up to being guilty of this, but his job is to be listened to by a very large audience which stinks of desperation and is pathetic.

Ray's going to get up (again) on one of his regular hobby horses today - the evils of the smart phone. Would he ever think of something new? There must be loads of issues and topics that would be good for the general well being of our citizenry. Instead of flogging the same knackered horses.

Ray suggests a show one day just with music , sounds good except he would probably mess up playing the tunes.
Said he got singing listens but made no difference - imagine the lack of personality doesnt help

And so ends another state health broadcast. I must be unique in that I've never stumbled across child porn on the internet it seems. That poor woman - if she's watching sites like that half the time :)

Tubbs was at it this morning as well. Telling us about a survey that discovered there are more germs on a smartphone screen than on a toilet seat. Funny enough it was on from 9,00 to 9,20. The time a lot of people are on the school run with "little ears" in the car.

But somebody here (hopefully/presumably has good basis for sharing this info) sez he has a Land Rover, and that’s some chunk of car for a small family when a moderately sized hybrid estate type car would fulfil all a family’s varied needs. Although a poster did say Land Rover do a hybrid, so not as petrol guzzling an SUV as their former/standard models.

I’m sure little ears have heard of toilets and germs, and maybe they will encourage Mammy/Daddy/Mamxdad (or whatever the new political term that Stefanie Preissner & the Politically Correct Snowflakes {good name for a band} will be forcing their children to call them in future) to wipe clean their smartphones.

What was the greatest thing that Ray D'Arcy ever did on his radio show? (Don't mention telling us to eat loads of porridge!)

Was it the Shave or Dye campaign when it was at it's height?

He really pushed that on his show at the time & collected a lot of money in the process.

Jimmy Saville collected a lot of money too, just saying.

The US books were very good. I never really liked the endless flogging of Shave or Dye after the first year.

The Even Better Than The Real Thing sessions were also really well done.
