    Who's this sitting in?

Katherine Thomas, formerly of RTE's travel show.

god who will do the 7 o'clock show? seems to be a roulette on there most evenings as to who will turn up to present anyways, though strangely I find myself enjoying it

    Nuacht at 3.30?

    Seems logical :pac:

I thought I'd give it a listen when I heard the Kathrine was standing in. Maybe Radio 1 will not be focussing on depressing (but socially worthy) topics.

She started well giving a little anecdote on her balls up travel arrangements.

And then kicked off with music from Mumford and Sons...good grief.

Back up the dial I went.

Had you down as a tad more sensible Hummer.

Thomas is ok is you want a steady diet of Z list celebrities and free functions.

    Nah mate

Oh for sure, either RTE are putting a mad frock on her and giving her a space aged hair-do and wheeling her out fronting some box of marbles on the telly or their giving her some god awful quiz filler show on bank holidays. Lame programmes presented by a limited presenter. New RTE logo?

But I just thought maybe I'll give RTE a go after 3 while the coast was clear of Ray. See what the "free class" will get up to without the duly conservative Ray who (as far as I've heard) just seams to trawl the barrel of misery in the name of goodliness these days.

Fr. Ray left the kids homework to do while he was out of class and that came in the shape of a playlist consisting of Mumford and Sons.

In my opinion the vast majority of R1 listeners have no interest in that crudd

In fairness she could be better if she stayed away from the shallow wispy crap that she normally gravitates to.
Should really ditch the 'who partied at what club' agenda and thus ensure free access and stuff as that just type asts her as an airhead who is a tad too old for that crack.

Could be wrong, but I think she could be better if she ditched that persona and stayed awY from those kind of programmes.

"you are happier if you are fitter"..

Seems the fitter D'Arcy gets the more miserable he gets...

That's true. Though staring down the barrel of 60 would be enough to depress him I suppose.

Someone should have told D'Arcy it's a wedding not a funeral he was going to.

I still reckon he has someone in the Indo primed to keep his profile "high"..

I love the way he "leads stars" at the wedding...

    "I know that couple"...

So he's getting people to text in to back up his argument.. why didnt he declare that he knew them when the comment first came in?

Ray opens the show complaining about the weather! A cold breeze he reckons, he's impossible to please, it's possibly the best day of the year so far!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,543 ✭✭✭Claude Burgundy

Right now he's having a pop at caffine, he's close to my shovel in the face list...........................all that is saving him is Lovely Day, what a song:)

If Ray doesnt get his eight hours sleepy, he's moany and gives out about everything... Come to think about it, even when he does get his eight hours sleep he's moany and giving out about everything...

Now poor Elber Twomey's story... What are RTE trying to do to us!!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,746 ✭✭✭Swiper the fox

I'd rather not have to listen to stories like Elber or Sebastian in the afternoon in what should be light entertainment before the drivetime programme. But I have been impressed with how Ray deals with those stories, it's when he's at his best. There could be a TV series in that for him. He won't be a patch on Brendan O'Connor for the light stuff.

Ray complains about having to break for nuacht, yet finds this rubbish worthy of airtime.

The carriage office Lost & Found section has now closed anyone who leaves anything in a taxi should now contact Ray D'Arcy or Joe Duffy at RTE Montrose

During the Barry McGuigan interview yesterday, the link to London was lost. It was irritating, no doubt and it does happen far too often on live interviews to places like London on RTE Radio 1.

His first reaction? 'There's a surprise', says he, and recovered well with a few text messages and what not.

He's already pissed off the large body of producers in Radio 1 by having the wife and the other lad parachuted in...... then the Nuacht people felt his deep irritation with their very presence on the Radio 1 schedule and now a little sarky 'There's a surprise' directed at tecchie people.

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Ray D'arcy - every weekday only on RTE Radio 1

What exactly are they meant to do... I still dont understand, their contributions are so infrequent that you could get the milkman to fill in for them when they are on holidays... And I dont get the whole Will Leahy in-joke.. I dont find him quirky, I dont find him interesting, and I dont find him funny.. but I get the feeling that I'm somehow meant to..

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭Expunge

I think she prints e-mails and texts out for her husband and cackles at his attempts at humour.

Will's role is more specialised and nuanced - looking up Wikipedia and cutting bits outta the paper about sick and dying people/running/sugar/obesity and now, to keep things current, Caffine addiction.

I have heard it said that the wage bill for D'Arcy plus his two studio pals/producers and John Daly series producer is up around 600,000 Euro.

I do not wish to go over old ground but I do not believe that the VW sponsorship covers all of this. D'Arcy's salary maybe but not the whole crack commando team combined.

Those first few minutes of him going through the stories of the gossip columns has to be done away with. Reading through the stories in that stupid mock bog accent of his... It's like it's his first time in front of the mic and he doesnt know what to say...

Sorry, do you think that Will and Jenny are employed to be co-presenters, ie: they are paid for their on-air contributions?
I haven't come across this Will Leahy in-joke, what is the jist of it? Or are you talking about Will Hannifan from the D'arcy show, either way what is the in joke??
