Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

All down to the bike being born in the wrong year.

    Hello,

    I just want to get your opinion on this;

    A relation of mine, 18 going on 19 shortly, has an EX 250F, 2006, really nice red bike, 24~cc, great for learning, well balanced etc.

    He just bought the bike instead of the newer Kawasaki 250s because of the really nice red paint work and great feel to the bike.

    He had previously got quotes for a 2008 ninja 250, the new models, 1000 euro TPFT or so with liberty, level 4 assessment and A2 learner.

    Now here's the killer, called liberty about getting insured on his 2006 bike, Not available for riders under 21!, called CN and got a quote of 1400 Third party only!, they don't recognise rider assessment!

    He's a little shocked at the moment and feels quite stupid for making such a dumb assumption.

    Can anyone here recommend another company we could try? and try to explain what is so special about the pre 2008 models?

    Ninja 250 was never sold in europe until 2008 when the newer model came in.
    His bike must be an import from North America.
    Where did he get the bike from?

    As far as I'm aware the original owner of the bike imported it from Canada when he moved to Ireland

    It's an uncommon bike in this country, only reason I can think of for why the insurance is higher.

    Try liberty again. They were telling me the same when I was 20. Got covered after a few calls to them.

    Its the same old thing with insurance companies being scared of imports as they can have different spec, power etc maybe body work is hard to find and expensive etc.

    I know someone who had no problem getting insured on a 98 Honda hornet 250 at 19. That bike is also an import afaik. I'd just keep ringing them until they insure him.
