Office Ribbon - Slow when using keyboard shortcuts

    Work laptop, Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Office 2013 (32-bit), 8gb RAM.

Use Excel heavily and if I try to use the ribbon keyboard shortcuts (e.g. ALT+WW to switch windows or ALT+AVV for data validation, etc.) the ribbon letters 'draw' quite slowly, from left to right. The next keypress won't register until all letters have been 'drawn', thus slowing down these keyboard shortcuts considerably (the more files I've open, the slower it is).

Keyboard shortcuts that don't involve the ribbon work instantly.

On every other computer I've used ribbon letters appear instantly regardless of how many files I have open - there is no 'drawing' effect.

Happens to all Office programs but Excel is only one that concerns me. Doesn't seem to affect colleagues as much.

I've tried disabling hardware acceleration in Excel and updating video card to latest drivers, no difference.

    How can I fix this?
