    Anyone know how to solve this?
    HL MATHS P2 Debs
    Parralelogram
    you're given 4 points, one is (0,0) one is missing the x coordinate, one is missing the y coordinate and one has both .. (I think it was 4,2)

    You have to find the missing coordinates somehow and then calculate the area of the parallelogram.

    Would you
    find the slope and use rise/run to map it out and get the points visually?

    You have to find the missing coordinates somehow and then calculate the area of the parallelogram.
    I believe the answer was k=-3.
    it gave you the origin (0,0) another point k,0, a point Q of 4,2 and a point R with no known coordinates, i believe, and an equation of a line which passes through the origin and point R y=2x.

    So what I did was realise to get from point 0,0 to 4, 2 you added 4 to the X and 2 to the Y, so for K,0 and R its K+4,2

    I then substituted K+4,2 into the equation as we're told it passes through this.

    2=2(k+4)
    2= 2k + 8
    2k=-6
    k=-3
    I think that's right, anyway.

    detailed Higher Level Maths Paper 1 from ExamCraft (barcode on top right)
    Maths:
    Q1: Definition of proof by contradiction, definition of a irrational number, Shading in the region of irrational numbers on a circle diagram thing (it's the smallest outer portion) and proving that root 2 is irrational.
    Q2 & Q3 were both Just algebra including simultaneous equations (3 unknowns - z,y,x, factor theorem, multiplying out fractions including solving inequalities, investigating if a factor was actually a root of an equation - you basically divide the factor into the equation. Mine didn't work out evenly so I said it wasn't a root!
    Q4: complex numbers starting with an argand diagram - wasn't nice, then using polar form, and then using de morives theorem
    Q5: there were 3 function diagrams and you just had to label them bijective, injective or surjective, part 2 was a logs question, nice enough, and then the indices question where you have to put your 3^x = y or whatever letter you want and solve the quadratic equation, and then whatever answers you get you sub them back in for the indices, only this time they werent nice and even so you had to use logs and ended up with decimals
    Q6: Integration - it was fine you just had to integrate a couple of equations and find the area between the curve and the x axis
    Q7: Financial maths - this started off awfully, but the part ii was just your amortisation proof but using different letters, it looked much more confusing than it was. Then the rest of the Q was just about taking out a loan and monthly repayments
    Q8: it was the volume of a prism thing and you had to do rates of change also
    Q9:sequence and series question. One person on here said it was a cubic sequence but I got quadratic and my formula worked out when I double checked so I don't know, see for yourself! Just know how to derive your quadratic/cubic sequence and you're fine!

    Thanks a mill! One last question! What was the circle question and the question on probability (Bernoulli trials) about?
    The circle question was to prove that any point on a line was on a circle, it gave you 3 points like (x,4) or something and told you PR= 2(QR)
    what I did was use the distance formula between PR and QR separately , it comes out as a sqrt, let PR = 2QR, square both sides and just state that its the same structure as a circle. The next part plays of it by asking you to find the tangents of the two lines from a point outside the circle, from the circle you just found.

    What I remember of the probability was a call centre, it gives you information on 40 companies, like 30 specialise in outbound, 8 in both, and like 11 in neither or something like that. I drew a venn diagram and I just said P(OnI)= 8/48
    I'm not great at probability, the next few questions were like whats the odds of a person getting through on the first attempt, whats the probability of getting through to two of 6 people. It was pretty simple if you know probability I think, I hope i got it right.

    2=2(k+4)
    2= 2k + 8
    2k=-6
    k=-3
    I think that's right, anyway.

    How would you calculate area of that then? Thanks!!

    Slightly apprehensive about this post ^. Perhaps a self made paper by the teacher? As I sat Irish HL DEBS Paper 2 today and
    although Geibheann came up, it was Gnathrud and comprehensions about Michael D. Higgins and Sam McGuire.

    It's the examcraft paper.

    How would you calculate area of that then? Thanks!!
    i got 6, which I believe was correct. it said Hence in the question... but there's no coordinate geometry formula for area of paralelogram so what I did was get the base length, side length, one of the angles using like tanthetha formula and basically used the formula. It came out exactly as 6 which I also got when I got the area of one triangle, from 0,0 to 4,2 to 1,2 and doubled it.

    If you are given 4 points, something like (0,0), (x,5) (4,y) and (4,2) and you have to find both missing values, and you also have to then calculate the area of the parallelogram ...

    Does anyone know how to do this ?

    What if you use half base by perpendicular height?

    I attached a pic for part 1)
