    hi can anyone help me out in trying to find 3 points on a line and I can't get a straight line?!
    The equation is x + 3y=6 !

    So I need to pick a number for y yes?!

    I've been trying for ages and I can't work it out can anyone give me 3 points that would work?! Or at least explain what I have to do? Thanks!

    If you need to get points on a line, the easiest two to pick are the x and y intercepts - where the line crosses these axises.

    To get the x intercept, let y=0
    x + 3y = 6
    x + 3(0) = 6
    x = 6
    Point 1 (6,0)

    Do the same for the y intercept, but let x=0
    x + 3y = 6
    0 + 3y = 6
    3y = 6
    y = 6/2
    y = 3
    Point 2 (0,3)

    So now you have two points on the line, this can be applied to any other time you need to find points on a line

    For the third point, pick another number for either x or y, take 1 for example.
    Let y = 1
    x + 3y = 6
    x + 3(1) = 6
    x + 3 = 6
    x = 6 - 3
    x = 3
    Point 3 (3,1)

    Hope this helps. The same principle can be applied to any other line
