I've never understood how you can claim to be a Christian.

I do implement austerity for myself if I can't afford something. If money not there one can borrow, but one can only borrow so much before you can't borrow anymore. Ireland reached that position.
You need austerity to get things back on track.
The alternative was far worse.

the last several years is a reaction to an era of over spending

call it " austerity " or whatever we like but the years from around 2003 - 2007 were unsustainable , an economy cannot revolve around people selling each other houses and using the taxes such transactions generate to swell the bank accounts of public servants
