Gay people will all be getting children through surrogacy on May 23 if this passes.

Free child with every yes vote!

The Yes side was expecting an easy ride.

But putting this into article 41 was going to lead to a confusing debate like this.

    Was a wrong approach IMO.

I am a Yes voter, and although there are a lot of senseless, bigotted reasons given by The No side, a lot of the No crowd do genuinely believe in their reasons against changing the law. Yet there is a severe bullying attitude towards them. Of course it goes both ways but the aspect of the bullying the No voters and advocates rarely is pointed out throughout this campaign.

As I said I am a Yes voter and on balance, weighing everything together, I personally cannot justify anything but a YES result but we live in a democracy.

I really never liked this Ronan Mullen guy though, he is giving no logic with his "surrogacy" point and can't back it up.

Ronan Mullen is putting on a strong debate.

    Simon is looking worried.

Yes a weak moment - to say it is not about a real concern of No side.

If two married couples are identical in every aspect except one is same sex and one is not, which couple would get the child? Would it go to a coin toss?

    Who applied first?

Why didn't they have this surrogacy/adoption debate when they were first introduced here to straight couples? Why now? I don't get it

Very much disagree. He is a good talker but he is a complete wall of contradictions and going off topic. He is making a lot of noise and getting his big claps but if you analyse what he says, he is not the best representative for the NO side

Interesting the birth mother decides, I didn't know this I presumed when you gave up your child for adoption you had no say in any matters as to who they went to and some health board type operation decided based on suitability, the guy made some interesting points explaining the process.

Don't like Ronan - but great performance. Minster looks a bit shaken,.

The adoption process won't change said that guy.

    Ronan disagrees. Sigh.

Mullen is parroting the same old red herrings over and over again. Trying to debate him is like trying to debate an ardent creationist, no matter how much actual evidence you present to them they won't change their beliefs, irrational as they are.

Simon needs to calm down rather than appear flustered.

I think the Minister is a bit bemused at the poor argument he's hearing.

Civil marriage is about state benefits.

You are together cos you love one another.

I think Coveny's doing a great job, getting a great response on twitter. He is waiting for the right time to respond and not jumping in. Mullen would make your blood boil so could you imagine him debating with you.

But it will in that a same sex married couple will be adle adopt a child jointly, they can't at the moment, only one of them can.
A sole applicant who is not in one of the categories listed above may only adopt where the Adoption Authority is satisfied that, in the particular circumstances of the case, it is desirable. It is not possible for two unmarried persons to adopt jointly.

Surrogacy is fine if it's within the state and not a commercial operation like almost all those abroad are.

Ronan Mullen isn't elected by the people. Yet he diverts to his "democracy and the people" spiel a lot. Put him in an election and see how popular he is....

The NO side keeps saying it is not about anything that is not nice sounding.

I believe in love - what is this John Lennon debate.
