Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Its not fake fighting but its unquestionably staged and scripted with the winners and losers pre determined to best sell tickets. Its not a sport, its an entertainment buisness.

All sport is entertainment. To say its unquestionably staged is completely ridiculous.

Ah now that is a scurrilous accusation. Making up stories online so as to win a pointless argument would be way below Gatling and a very childish act.

I imagine he is having a good look through the boxing archives from the 1990s at this moment :pac:

Actually no I watching one of the Many UFC events I've on dvd With one my kids while having a hot lunch .

    Conspiracy theories

Boxing is more skilled due to the specialisation involved imo. I also think it requires better fitness and endurance levels due to the 12 rounds and having to remain on your feet throughout the fight. This is all my own perspective obviously, but if you were to pick an athlete from a non violent sport like football I'd fancy them to last longer in the octagon than a boxing ring too. Also, purely the fact that boxing has been around for far longer than mma in the professional sphere gives it an advantage as we are only seeing the first generation of ufc fighters. We don't know how far ufc can go but right now I'd prefer to watch a boxing match.

I'd disagree with you. What specialisation is involved in boxing that is not present in MMA?

There is a whole lot more going on in MMA than boxing.

    Boxing versus UFC?

Wonderful, we'll sort it out once and for all on this thread I'd say.

Which boxing fight, in the 1990s, which you say you watched, allowed a fighter being punched "20+" times defenceless in the head with the ref allowing it to go on for another few minutes after that? Which fight was it?

To prefer boxing is perfectly acceptable. They are different sports. To say an athlete would last longer in the octogon though shows a lack of understanding. 5 minute rounds versus 3 minute rounds is a monumental difference. We have also moved on from the first generation of MMA (UFC is a brand, MMA is the sport) fighters. Randy Couture, Chuck Lidell, Matt Hughes. The real first wave of top level UFC champions with a decent level of media exposure. The GSP, Jon Jones, Jose Aldo, Chris Weidman champions are the second wave. Much more rounded athletes. The vast majority train year round and keep themselves in outstanding shape and try to hone their skills across a wide range of martial arts rather than just specialising.
I can appreciate that Mayweather, Pacquiao, Hopkins etc. are oustanding athletes, hugely skilled. I dont understand why people who can see that such as yourself would not give high level MMA fighters the same appreciation.

Pretty obvious Gatling is exaggerating on the 'few minutes' comment.

Regarding bad stoppages, Mercer Morrison is one that comes to mind.....horrible ending.

Regardless of him giving you the exact fight he is refering to, we can all provide a long list of both boxing matches and MMA fights that were allowed continue past when they should have been stopped. It is up to the referee or fighters corner to stop a fight.

The ethos is the same in both sports, unfortunately there will be human error. MMA referees are not infallible beings; with the popularity of the sport increasing along with the regularity of events, the chances of something similar happening there will also increase.

20+ punches to the head while defenceless also jumped out at me.

No, i'm sure Gatling will answer the question. He wouldnt be telling lies.

OP, Try the UFC forum but lose the attitude and don't insult posters in your first post if you want the thread to stay open :)
