Both Harmonie and GFS are sticking to their guns, one of them is going to have egg on its face!

GFS soundings now say sleet at sea level in the west during the peak of the precipitation while further east it's snow. Note the thickness of the warm and moist surface layer in the west, with wbt of almost 2 °C. Further east it remains below zero.

Yup, Met E do not indicate any such widespread snow at all.Mainly dry for the rest of the week, just some wintry showers western, northern fringes really.

    Met eireann should be ignored
It's snowing this morning let alone tomorrow

  • Registered Users Posts: 93 ✭✭Clamball

Just drove from Cork to Fermoy, temperatures 2 - 1 C. Road conditions good.

    Met eireann should be ignored
It's snowing this morning let alone tomorrow

Met Eireann has had a warning mentioning snow for Munster this morning since last night :
Scattered wintry showers, mainly in parts of Ulster, Connacht and west Munster, could give accumulations of up to 3 cm in places overnight and on Monday morning.

The forecast for this morning mentions wintry showers inland :
Many areas dry, but a few patches of rain and drizzle will occur along Atlantic coasts and some wintry showers in inland areas.

The radar shows radar light/drizzle/snizzle over the southwest. The reports here are of light and very light snow in places. On the coast, it's rain
SHERKIN ISLAND(A) NE 10 MOD. DRIZZLE
    VALENTIA(A) E 06 LIGHT RAIN

That all seems exactly consistent with what Met Eireann has forecast for this morning. So they should they be ignored exactly?

Latest ECM for this morning until tomorrow afternoon. It's showing is fairly light precip at times for areas in the northwest to the southwest, fizzling out before reaching the east. Would be rain/sleet on the coast and turning to snow inland.

Euro4 snow accumulation on Tuesaday. :(

It is snowing very lightly here at the moment, not near enough for it to start sticking, and with the cloud cover and no breeze it is not getting very cold either.

Very light snow coming and going here in cork City NW

Encouraging to see streamers in action already on the Irish sea. Looks like these are more likely to deliver the goods on the east coast tomorrow than any frontal precip, Isle of Man permitting of course! Bring on the NE winds!

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Jean very much siding with Harmonie on the Radio forecast at 8am this is going to be fascinating to watch, of course the answer may well end up being something between Harmonie and GFS.

    Light breeze, clear and -1.1C.

Cloud drifted over from time to time late last night and it hardly moved the temperature at all - always a good sign!

Macroom is very well positioned for snow in 12 hours time or less according to the charts. Cork city might be too far east.

Just a light dusting so far....hopefully tomorrow will be better!!

00z Euro4 has the snow tonight a little further east than the 18z with some accumulations inland

To be very precise...for me/south Dublin...NNE or ENE winds please. NE winds just means the IOM screws us (in south Dublin)! :)

Woke up to a dusting on Inch, Donegal. Everything had frozen last night by 10pm, nice halo around the moon as well. Couldn't get a photo unfortunately, because it turns out that I'm a pretty terrible photographer. Anyways, what snow we had during the night has turned the place into a winter wonderland once again, and fingers crossed for a little more!

Here's where the ECM has the highest snow potential for early tomorrow morning (6z)

Meanwhile, the GFS 00z has snow falling over a wider area as the front pushes through:

Here locally, currently under a thick layer of Altostratus yet temp is still only -1.0c (Dp -2.0) with a with a fairly dense smoke haze. Not a breath of wind either. Classic wintry weather!

Snowing in Dunmanway. Every thing is white. The council must have been out to grit because the roads are OK.

  • Registered Users Posts: 317 ✭✭The_Shotz

Cold and frosty with good cloud cover in Waterford City. Will anything fall from those clouds, fingers crossed but I won't hold my breath!

06z continues the trend for snow tonight.
Have seen enough now to be confident of at least a few cm across the western side of the country
