Hourly HIRLAM is available here (currently up to 4am )

    http://www.met.ie/forecasts/short-range.asp

Does shows some light showers in the Irish Sea though fizzing out before making landfall. The radar will be more useful but don't set yer expectations too high!

Meanwhile a polar low is forming in Biscay and will strike NE Spain with gale to storm force winds around midnight. Cloudtops are cooling and it is showing a developing circulation. Models show it with a warm core and with more than a 44 degree difference in sst-500 hPa it would seem to meet the definition.

Looks like precipitation hitting the Ashford/Rathnew area in Wicklow. Anyone there?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,565 ✭✭✭Pangea

Has anyone got to the stage where they check the radar instead of looking outside?

I certainly havent. Most of the time there is no percip when the radar says there is!

Im watching the 9oclock news and weather, it looks like there will be snow all along the west coast tonight and tomorrow morning snow from Loop head north.

I'm just North of Rathnew in Newcastle, Co. Wicklow.

Nothing here so far. You'll be first to know if/when anything falls.

I think early tomorrow morning might be best chance for east south east regarding streamers. Maybe 9am to 1pm. BBC weather graphics seem to go along with this on the 24 hr Cardiff forecast I just found.

A very light drizzle falling here in Donegal, looks heavier on the radar than it is.
Seems to be heavy precipation around Castlebar on the radar.

18z gfs for what it's worth still good for all western half of the country.

The flow just offshore seems to be straight Northerly, should become a bit more NNE over the next couple of hours and maybe bring some flurries onto the coast (that's if there is any showers at that time). For now they seem to be sliding past parallel to the coast though.

So unless we get upgrades most likely the only snow I'll be seeing is the snowman from last week that my little nephews have pounded into the ground. Ah well!

Poor old 18Z GFS is already wrong. According to this it should be snowing in Cork now, with moderate snow falling on the Cork/Kerry border and light/moderate snow falling all along up the west...

I wouldn't say that. Parts of Cavan could see a couple centimeters top up overnight. More likely a dusting though.

Maybe down the western half of it, i'm up the other other end of it unfortunately.
If we get this dry frosty weather for another week or two i'll be happy enough.

Raining in Castlebar, Temp of 2.1C and DP of 1.2C, I'm not expecting anything tonight apart from rain, maybe further east to Knock airport or Charlestown/Roscommon direction to midlands. Alot of people clutching at straws at the moment!

Hmm the radar is showing all models to wrong at present, it has either arrived early or moved further East than forecast

Just saw this on FB from Kerry CC

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kerry-County-Council/60472939953?fref=nfDue to the forecast for the next number of days and in consultation with the local Gardaí, the Conor Pass road has been closed to traffic. Signage is being erected on both sides of the Pass to alert motorists. A number of vehicles have got into difficulty there this morning resulting in this decision.

For anyone who wants to see if the streamers are falling as snow when they hit Wicklow, have a look here http://wicklowcam.com/

The camera overlooks Wicklow Town and when it's snowing, it generally looks like a scene from star wars on the screen! :D

Thanks, it's hardly clutching at straws when there's a snow warning issued by met eireann.

Some bone chilling temps out there at the moment at the 10pm Met Eireann readings. -5 in Mullingar and -4 at dublin airport and Casement - wonder will it dip significantly lower tonight?
