Gorgeous frosty and calm walk this morning. Clouds from the east looked like they were coming towards us but nothing materialised yet.

Back home now and it's just hit 0c blue sky all round me just below 3 rock.

Proper snow streamers heading into Aughavanagh, Drumgough and onto lugnaquilla
    Should be interesting
Place to go is mtn road heading uphill from glenmalure through Drumgough to Aughavanagh
public Road at its height is 500 mtrs asl near Lug
Warning top of that road is very snow covered and icy

Is there please any relief in view from this bitter and shocking cold? It is getting unbearable for this old wan and for many of us in this situation.

Not to any great extent in the short term though may become a little milder next week, so hopefully it'll be a little easier to bare.

'Streamer' line taken at 11.30. With all the debate about the best model earlier this morn, it was, in fairness, the GFS that picked up on this potential for today more so than the ECM/HIRLAM.

Can anyone see is there much snow on the reeks in Kilarney?

Some pix of my frost in West Dublin this morning where a local temp of -7 was recorded, my sister's snowfall in East Limerick this morning and my brother's "dusting" in Chicago yesterday! You'll know which is which! :)

It has been a bit of disaster really, I wasnt holding much hope out for the east in any case, but for the wesht to be denied much of what was a decent prospect is disappointing.

Clouds are low enough but id say snow line is up at 500-600m
I'd say its deep enough above that as a few falls have built up now.

Is there any snow expected for the east coast tonight?

From height in Dublin 4, looking out to sea there's what looks like an impressive amount of cloud forming and drifting south.

Is the wind still expected to switch more easterly and strengthen later on?

There is a better chance tonight of a few snow showers in say Dublin or Meath because the wind will go that bit more northeasterly but the wind won't be that much stronger. It will be very, very cold tonight as well similar to last night. Maybe just a degree up in the east.

I'm lucky enough to be heading off to the French Alpes on Saturday where they have been spoilt of late (170cm upper slopes, 80cm lower slopes), however the fact that i know there will definitely be snow makes it far less exciting than the prospect of 1 or 2cm of snow here! Half the fun is the chase / wait :)

    Lovely photo
That streamer seems to be heading for Arklow now
Temp here is a ridiculous 6.3c though, so could someone go out and tell it we won't be ready untill after 8 :D

I'll pop back down now and let it know :) There's even sea ice on the tide line down there!

Little blob headed for Dublin maybe, won't be anything other than cold rain at the coast (if it brings any precipitation) though
