Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi folks..
Looking for any opinions on these passats.. I've had a few 1.9TDi passats in the past and found them good..

Near 100k mjiles for a 2010 isn't too far out of the ordinary is it, full service history should be reassuring enough.. ?? would be putting another 100k over 4 ears ourselves..
Decent spec and tidy looking bodywork.. Hoping to pop along and test drive this and a 140BHP Mondeo he has, but a bit worried about the trim colour on the Mondeo not matching the bodywork that well..

Any feedback on the dealer would be appreciated too..

That particular Passat is a UK import. The UK spec Highline has terrible aftermarket cheap looking fake leather seats. It is actually a lower spec than the Irish Passat Highline.

Also if your budget can stretch the facelifted Passat from 2011 was a much improved car.

I would personally not touch a UK diesel import from a non main dealer, but that is just me.

Why not use bring one in yourself?

If it wasn't clocked in the UK, it may well have been clocked here. Service histories can go missing. Too many third parties would have had there hands on it between there and here, and you can bring them in yourself with a greater degree if certainty.

Not to say you can't find legit ones, but its a minefield.

I wouldn't have the time to go to the UK.
I must take a look at cars north of the border to see if there is any better value there but with strong sterling I'd say value has been eroded.

Surely if that passat had a stamped service history that would be strong proof of milage. Should it have MOT certs or is that just above a certain age of car similar to nct ??

Definitely can't stretch budget any further. It's been stretched to include the Passat into consideration. Really the Mondeo is my budget. Just not sure the Mondeo will take another 100-120k miles, where I've out similar on VWs in the past.

Best not to take stamps or anything at face value. If the book is stamped and up to date you check with a call to the dealer in the UK, and run a car check on the UK reg.

I find a full service history can be a bit lacking these days. with long life oil and 20k miles service intervals your 100k car might only be serviced 3 or 4 times, not like changing oil/filter every 6k miles.
On the Passat front - the dual mass flywheel seems to go at 100k miles (a grand to fix) the electric handbrake gives trouble on the passats 500 euro. by 2010 they should have a lot of the 2.0 engine trouble sorted, which was oil pump and injecter related.
With the mondeo the 2.0 gave injector trouble , expect to change all 4 at 50to 60k miles. DMF should be good to 100k.

They kept the 1.9 passats going but I find it annoying they only offer a 105bhp in it when they used to offer 130/150s. Though this can be remapped to 140

Stamped service books can be bought cheap enough online, you still need to verify by ringing the garages that stamped them what was done at what mileage.

I'll probably focus on the Mondeo and that way I'd have a few euro in reserve if I have a problem.
