Can't see any thread for the upcoming Sigerson Cup so saw the need to create one

Who does everybody fancy to win it ?

Personally myself find it hard to look passed UUJ with Cillian O'Connor Ronan O'Niell and Paddy Mcbreaty there stand out names and can't see any team having the defence to contain the 3 of these

UUJ could be out after their first game when they play league champions DCU.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,966 ✭✭✭Syferus

UUJ's financial doping would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. People complain about DCU but UUJ are the truly shameless ones here. It didn't work last season and hopefully it doesn't work this season.

Ucc won't give up the crown easy and as hosts for finals with awesome manager billy Morgan excellent ex cork hurler Kevin Murray and a panel huge depth nearly pick two teams imo huge chance win it as have cream cork kerry talent

Tough opener v well coaches cit with Paudie kissanne but should prevail

UCC have a good chunk from last year's team still available, Conor Cox, Paul Geaney, among others.

Does anyone have an idea of the CIT panel do they have many from last years panel , I think they might topple UCC in the local derby

Does anyone have an idea of the CIT panel do they have many from last years panel , I think they might topple UCC in the local derby

Cit have cork keeper David hsnahran senior sub keeper
Tj brosnan former cork under twenty one imo better half than corner
Captain is Brendan Sullivan kerry junior lost final cavan

    He'd good player

Paul Sullivan is there could be midfield
Under twenty one last year and minor cork john corkery there and Barry o making and Sean flynn tipp senior I'd forward but brilliant cork senior cathal Vaughan I'd injured as towering kerry midfielder Kieran Murphy
Donal Hodnet cork senior terrific player and real danger as a forward and with corkery and flynn have forward but if Vaughan was there they had a better chance imo

    Huge losses
They have daily and Jordan from Austin stacks senior club also
Darragh Tracey limerick is good player also

Kissanne good coaching will play blanket and they will be organised but ucc have huge depth and Morgan has them primed

Martin cork under twenty one keeper

Culhwme and Maguire kerry under age possible seniors

Half back line Clancy, dorman driscoll is awesome but Sean white cork senior extended panelists currently under twenty one again this year and ex minor coup play at six free o driscoll who can play ten Brian dooher role

Ian maguire cork senior and under twenty one with kerry man Sullivan midfield

Cork senior and ballincollig Sean Kiely play half forward buy help midfield and nemo ex cork under twenty one luke connelly is half forward

Full forward line senior Paul geaney kerry, under age tomas hickey super player and conor cox likely kerry senior former under age player

    They have serious subs also
I can't see past ucc in game if they have the hunger
If cit won I'd be delighted for kissanne but at end day both teams managed by cork men with cork players

Hard to look passed UCC when CIT are missing some key players I didn't know they were missing

Seen UCC play in McGrath cup final and was very impressed with them very good strength in depth and played really well without all the big names such as Geaney Cox Maguire Clancy

With the players CIT are missing I can't see them winning now but no doubt they will go down battling

Someone just posted the UCC squad on another site.

Looking at the various squads there does look to be a serious gap in the depth of quality with UCC having a number of experienced intercounty players from Kerry and Cork and lots of talent throughout the squad. Not saying CIT are a bad side, but they don't seem to have the overall quality of the UCC side.

Like others I find it very hard, if not impossible to see past a UCC win and would guess that they have a decent chance of going a good distance in the competition overall.

    1 Adrian Spillane Templenoe Kerry
2 Alan O'Donovan Nemo Rangers Cork
3 Brian O'Driscoll Tadgh Mac Cathraigh Cork
4 Colm Hyde Naomh Aban Cork
5 Conor Cox Listowel Emmets Kerry
    6 Conor Dorman Bishopstown Cork
    7 David Culhane Ballylongford Kerry
    8 David Harrington Adrigole Cork
9 Eanna O Conchuir An Ghaeltacht Kerry
10 Enda Dennehy St Finbarrs Cork
    11 Fergal O'Connor Knocknagree Cork
    12 Francis Courtney Beaufort Kerry
    13 Gary O'Sullivan Listry Kerry
14 Ian Maguire St Finbarrs Cork
15 Jack McGuire Listowel Emmets Kerry
    16 Jamie Davis Douglas Cork
17 Kevin Davis O'Donovan Rossa Cork
18 Kevin Fulingati Nemo Rangers Cork
    19 Kevin Hayes-Curtin Douglas Cork
    20 Kevin O'Sullivan Kenmare Kerry
    21 Kieran Histon Cobh Cork
22 Luke Connolly Nemo Rangers Cork
23 Micheal Martin Nemo Rangers Cork
24 Padraic Looram Clonmel Commercials Tipperary
    25 Padraig McCarthy Rathmore Kerry
    26 Padraig O'Connor Legion Kerry
    27 Padraig Scanlon Glin Limerick
    28 Paul Geaney Dingle Kerry
    29 Ronan Murphy Beaufort Kerry
    30 Sean Kiely Ballincollig Cork
    31 Sean White Clonakilty Cork
32 Shane Power Clonmel Commercials Tipperary
    33 Shaun Keane Legion Kerry
34 Tom Hickey Castleisland Desmonds Kerry
    35 Tomas Clancy Fermoy Cork
36 Tomas Hickey Castleisland Desmonds Kerry

Anyone have the squads for any of the other favoured teams e.g. DCU and UUJ?

    Same as myself

Ucc winning it handy 2-8to 1-3 half time

Looking at cit team on twitter few stand out players but have lot just solid club players and problem is that they face elite ucc team where lot under age player cork or kerry with large bulk possible seniors

    Course Morgan is king

    O driscoll got black card
But look who replaced him outstanding Sean white
No other team can do that

Goal cit john corkery last year cork under twenty one

Goal ucc kerry player tomas hickey who imo seen before super player

What's even more remarkable is that ITT had Conor Keane in their full-forward line who is a very serious prospect for Kerry.

Aye, Keane is a good prospect but I feel he has a tendency to take too much out of the ball at times. Savage is a good prospect too to be fair- Kennelly has gone on record with his opinion that they will both play for Kerry in the near future.

I.T Sligo were reinstated last night and play UCC on Friday @2pm. It seems that the rule that existed which prevented sabbatical officers from representing their college had been left out of the current rulebook so the previous decision was overturned. Can find any info on whether the rule had changed or that it was left out in error?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,966 ✭✭✭Syferus

Some plainly wrong stuff here. The ITS player in question is the student union president and also a full-time student in the college rather than someone on a sabbatical from studies, so even had the rule been there the case against him playing would be in a gray area. The lad was freshers manager so it was certainly not a UUJ situation where he was being brought in to play Sigerson, he's ITS from the ground up. The whole debacle was another black eye for the Sigerson, throwing out one of the few colleges that do operate their Sigerson team in good faith.

Good luck to ITS in the Mardyke today, it would be just fantastic that if after all this and losing Evan Regan to a collarbone fracture they could go to the current champions and this year's finals hosts and win.

Carlow beat Tralee and UL. Beating UL in Limerick is a decent result, they had a good team on paper at least.

You're right about Jordanstown..bringing in county players is all well and good, but you can't manufacture a team. Those Mary's lads were willing to put their bodies on the line for each other. Does Cillian O'Connor for example, really give a ****e about UUJ? I doubt it.

St Mary's reached the Ryan cup league final back in December they probably would have beaten UUJ if they played them.

    Semi final results

DCU 2-8 UCD 0-11 (late penalty won it)
UCC 2-13 Carlow IT 0-8 (Carlow were leading 6-5 at half time)

Cox had a great chance in normal time to put UCC 2 up and bottled it, did so again in extra-time- very surprised as he is usually quite good at this level. Geaney was off the pace aswell.

That was unforgiveable. They had a 3 on 1 player advantage too and he messed it up. Would've won the game for them, unquestionably.

Fair play to DCU, thought they were full value for the win in ET. Geaney didn't look fully fit. As for Conor Cox, well, I will say nothing. Clancy had a few shocking attempts also. Two big kicks from the DCU goalie and he did well to smother a goal chance in normal time.

It was an easy shot for someone with his ability, he took the right option. The execution was the problem.

Five Rossies on the DCU team. The three Boyle men all instrumental to the win, perfect.

He had 2 men over or could have taken the ball on as he had space- as someone else has said (and I agreed with)- it was unforgivable.

A lot of Roscommon lads seem to go to DCU-any particular reason for that? They have had a good representation on the DCU teams over the last few years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,966 ✭✭✭Syferus

Cox had space (he was pretty much unmarked when he got the ball) and was in-front of the posts from a very easily scoreable distance, he had taken multiple hard shots earlier in the game and scored, there was no need to be over-working the ball when your scoring forward had the ball in that position, execution was the only thing Cox failed on.

The former DCU treasurer was a Western Gaels club-man, he helped foster a lot of players in north and west Roscommon going to DCU - four of the five on this year's panel are from those areas. He felt being part of a big university with the best young players in the country would help bring players on and make them realize they were as good as their counter-parts elsewhere. It's certainly helping.

Members of Moyna's management team are also involved with Roscommon GAA too so there's a few connections there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,800 ✭✭✭Always_Running

UCC probably threw that game away in normal time but credit to DCU they kept plugging away and Lowe the goalkeeper showed nerves of steel with that pressure kick. DCU we better team in extra time however both sides were out on their feet at the stage maybe it's time to have at least a 3 day break between games.

I could not believe how Eddie Kinsella allowed the equalising free kick be taken at least 10 feet forward from where the foul occured. This made it a far easier kick - IMO if the kick was taken from the correct position, it would have been near impossible to convert.

    Billy Morgan was livid.

Conor Cox will have nightmares for a long time - He had 2 men free inside him and both had a clear run on goal - I can't ever remember seeing a chance butchered so badly. It's maybe unfair to blame one player but .......

    Billy Morgan was livid.

Conor Cox will have nightmares for a long time - He had 2 men free inside him and both had a clear run on goal - I can't ever remember seeing a chance butchered so badly. It's maybe unfair to blame one player but .......

    A sign of bad coaching.
