Not saying it would happen with me every few nights. Once in a while I would maybe get the urge. Sometimes I'd act, most times I'd sleep off the craving.

Almonds are very good for helping with cravings, plus they're very good for you. They can be really bland,, but if you bake them with fresh rosemary for a few minutes, they're delicious.

Very few, if they did rte would be parading them at the start of every new series. They had a few on this year and anyone that didn't keep up the weight loss were only shown from the neck up.

Hmmm don't think you're right there buddy.

One is a frequent marathon runner, another is a personal trainer now. I think everyone bar 1 kept the weight off.

On the catch up show they showed one woman who didn't keep it off. Loving her life and loving her food.

Did they confirm she was the only failure? Or was she the only failure they showed?

    Only failure they showed.

TBH i reckon there's a lot of pressure on them to keep it off. More so than a regular person anyway because EVERYONE around them knows about it.

The wife had read on another forum that one of the previous contestants had put back on all the weight they had lost and more and never left the house anymore because she was so self-conscious of people looking because of her role on the show.

Tbf, the story had a bit of a friend of a friend vibe from it and no name had been given in relation to the contestant but if there's no real follow up for them, it would be a plausible enough outcome.

TBH that doesn't really surprise me. I reckon they keep it off and lose more or put it back on and hide. I think there was one contestant from last years show missing from the follow up. Could have been them.

The elderly ex-GAA player, Paudie, was one of the most popular leaders last year and they haven't mentioned a word about him since. I saw people asking after him on the FB page and no answer.

Tbf, like I said no mention was made of the name of the contestant or the year they were on it and I have no way of verifying the story so I don't want to start chinese whispers.

No matter how well laid out a show of this nature is, you're never going to get a 100% success rate.

It should be very high but for so many people, weight and eating is intrinsically linked to psychological issues that an 8-week show can never come close to addressing so it won't be capable of arming 100% of the contestants with all the tools they need to tackle the weight issues

There's some show where the guy trains one on one with the person and looks at all thr other factors like home life and getting the family on board and all that other stuff. Not only do they lose weight but they end up making personal changes like moving out or going from a dead end job they're miserable in to something they actually want to do. It's good stuff. I think it's the obese a year to save my life?

    That's the one.

Saw it once where some lad was very overweight and became homeless. But he worked hard, saved and bought himself a one way ticket to Gainzville.

They spend a lot longer with them which helps make if a more sustainable change

    plus you cant save everyone!!

    stop the bleeding hearts

the time duration i never think is a factor at all.
Had a client iven seen for a while now - dropped over 50kg in about 14 months and still going down.
I just appeared at the right time and when she was in the right mindset.
Id love to tell you it was my magical motivation stratigies and superior programming.

Any honest trainer would tell you they get good success (my own definition of success is if clients show up regularly, alot you can get done with consistency and frequency vs thinking high intensity is the key) with far less than half the clients they see.

I on the other hand I get success with 100% of my clients as long as you buy my ebook, sign up for my course and adopt a rotating paleo/intermittent fasting vegan diet

I can't disagree with any of that.

I just thought the time element afforded more of a chance or success.

But maybe that's just with people who would have made the right start, the right choices after 8 weeks and followed through

The trainer on that is Jessie Pavelka. Id watch it just for him. :) The uk shows he did were really good, less contrived than the American ones.

Is this the show where they had a morbidly obese black man and it turned out during episode that his eating disorder was due to being molested as a child, never telling anyone due to shame and that he was a closet gay man who eat so he wouldn't be expected to be in a relationship e.g. his family expecting him to have a wife?

I was looking at and thinking well this is different than the biggest loser. IIRC they got him counselling and continued his transformation. He lost a massive amount of weight.

Mmm Jessie..he's a dreamboat! :D in all seriousness though, his speciality is working with super morbidly obese people and he takes a holistic approach to their weight loss. He works as much on changing their mind set and lifestyle as with their diet and exercise. He seems to get great results. It does obviously depend on the individual too. I saw one episode where he was working with a man of Afro Caribbean background and his whole family life/socialising revolved around food and eating and he just didn't want to give it up.

I think Jessie is working with the biggest loser now in the US which is disappointing

Oh. Oh well then all bets are off.

Because people go from morbidly obese to ripped in one year.

You should be easily able to lose 6-7 stone in a year so morbidly obese minus 6-7 stone should be fairly visible ;)

Is this just trolling? It's two 30 minute shows a week, when could they have time to touch base with previous contestants? They bring the contestants from the previous year in for a meal with this years contestants in one of the last episodes of each season?

I assumed you were taking about quick convenient junk food since you mentioned snack and munchies in the post I originally quoted. What exactly are you eating when you get up in the night?

Variety of foods. It happens once every so often. I am just shocked that nobody here has ever went to bed with a hunger on them, or a craving to have something to eat or drink. If I am in bed I usually stay there and sleep the "hunger" off, but every so often I may get up to satisfy the craving. It was related to my point about sleep and eating late at night, and eating when bored. Try pick a time that you stop, then get to bed shortly after. Get a routine going. Many people gain weight, or fail to lose weight due to eating at times that they should be hitting the sack, or at times when they aren't really hungry.

But meal timing makes no difference ... If you have the kcals left over there is no problem with eating before sleeping ...

Not sure I am with you, or what point/points in my post you are responding to?

It's not as simple as how you seem to be making out. Like I said, for many people who struggle with weight, eating at night, or at times when bored and not all that hungry is a problem. Rest and getting to bed for many will help this. Getting a routine, and sticking to it. That means making a time or deadline where you stop ingesting foods and liquids. Planning your day as regards when you ingest foods and liquids can be very important for people who have weight problems.

I was responding to , "fail to lose weight due to eating at times that they should be hitting the sack".

It is pretty simple , rather than planning meal timing , I reckon its more important to plan meal macros, and track intake. Putting time limits on things just encourages obsessing over food and when you should be eating. Eat when you're hungry, but eat food that will keep you fuller for longer. It is possible to eat a huge volume of food , be constantly full , and still lose weight. the problem for people with weight problems is the poor food choices.

True, how could they fit all that into two 30 minute slots maybe they could go completely mad and do a 1 hour special about the previous contestants at any stage during the year. As for your trolling comment the answer is no.

No arguments there. It's not an exact science. I just feel that boredom and hanging around causes a lot of issues for folks. They should be focusing on remedies to this boredom, and remedies to stop them eating when they shouldn't be eating. Bed is one such remedy. Getting a good night's sleep, and getting a routine.

I think you're both kind of on the same page
On the one hand yeah calories is what's import
Otoh sitting around in the evening can lead to boredom and automatically reaching for the snacks and that'll put you over your calories unless you break the habit and distract yourself
As for hunger before bed it's fairly rare for me
