You may have to ask your particular local authority.

The Tenant Purchase Scheme has ended.

There's a new scheme called Incremental Purchasing, which let's social housing tenants buy A house - but not the one they are in.

But there are some issues eg must be a new build that the council has identified for sale.

And I don't know what progress has been made in implementing it.

    Some info here http://www.environ.ie/en/DevelopmentHousing/Housing/HomeOwnership/IncrementalPurchaseScheme/

There is currently no tenant purchase scheme in place. The housing (miscellaneous provisions) bill 2014 sets out a new tenant purchase scheme which will operate differently to previous ones. There will now be a penalty or clawback to pay if you sell the house within a preset time period. You will also have to give the council first refusal on any re sale and the price will be set as the Market value less the outstanding charged share owed to the council. Also I think the price you pay for the house might be linked to your income so if you earn more than your neighbour you will pay more for your house.

It's no where near the giveaway scheme that was running from 2011 on Im afraid you've missed the boat on that one. The new scheme is expected to be announced by the DOE this year anyway!
