The Taken King Digital Download (Expansion 3 ONLY) = €40 (if you pre-order on PSN you get the Suros Arsenal bonus) - JUST GET THIS

Seriously though the packages and pricing hurt my head so I'm just going with this, oh and the dances.

Yeah, you're right. I didn't read it right. It's only the previous expansions, and not The Taken King. CEX trade in it is so :)

People on Reddit said you can start playing Vanilla and the DLCs now if you buy the full Collectors digital edition, not 100% sure, but it would stand to reason that you can do the same with the Legendary edition
One thing you might add, since I've seen a lot of people ask about this, is that you can start playing the game right now if you buy the digital collectors edition.

Surely that's fairly self explanatory, they're hardly going to block content that's already released.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,183 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Is there a digital legendary edition though? Seems like it's only a physical edition, which means i'd be without the game for a month or so (if i traded in the original).

I won't be paying €90 for the collectors, that's for sure.

There should be on the store but I know some of the buying options are greyed out on the Console itself. Think some of the other lads got around this by buying on the App or Online or something I think

Wait, I actually found the source:

    https://www.destinythegame.com/taken-king/wheretobuy
Play It Now - Pre-purchase the digital Collector’s Edition and immediately begin playing Destiny and both Expansions today!

It does NOT say the same thing under the Legendary Edition (Digital)

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,183 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Yeah, was just checking it myself there and saw the pre-play is only if you get the Digital Collectors Edition.

Screw it, I might just pick up the expansions now, and if I'm still enjoying it in a months time, I'll get the Taken King as well. It's not that expensive (well, it is but whatever).

You could just skip the expansions and go straight to taken king sure.

Oh..... that's gonna be bad value for money €40 now, €40 later and still now bonus emotes/class items/suros weaponry for your troubles

TBH, if that's what your thinking, just splurge on the Digital Collectors Edition (€80) and get €16 from CeX and get stuck in! A net €66 cost and you can play now and have everything except the Physical toys/cards/stickers

    Yeah, it's a bit of a mess.

I'll probably sell the original and The Order tomorrow and buy the collectors digital edition over the weekend. That'll only cost €57 total, which isn't too bad.

So how did the PS4 chaps get on with the flawless run last night?
And dare I ask if Mitch got Skolas yet? :)

No - despite the great efforts of Cuchulann and Cormac, I failed again after near 3 hours. Got him down to 26% health, he ducked behind and avoided our Gally rockets so we missed with a load and the second set of mines killed us. At that point it was midnight and I needed to go to bed...

    So. fecking. Frustrating.

It's tough. I've only done it once with Ger and Cable and they seemed very experienced with it. One of the most important things I noticed during the run was that they knew the threshold on Skolas' health that would cause the next wave of ads to spawn and when the mines would spawn. So we were not hammering him with rockets all the time. We were clearing all the other enemies and making sure we had our supers and plenty of ammo before we made the mine runs.

I was lucky though. They were running it with another guy and it got too late for him, so when I joined I only had to do the Skolas round. Got the Elder Cipher too :o

I messed up a lot to be fair. It took about 2 hours to even work our way up to him due to the unhelpful modifiers. I image if small arms was on Skolas he'd be a decent bit easier

Flawless was knocked out handy enough, the hunter was the one under pressure but he did a great job. We didn't go flawless flawless as we had a few restarts including one error message. Popped many bubbles along the way even when not required. Thanks lads, great to get that done and dusted.

I think we should take this team to crucible some night for the giggles.

Last gen Destiny is going for €13 in Argos, I was thinking of picking it up and if I like it trade it in against the legendary edition with all the dlc after its released. Is it worth playing Destiny without any of the dlc?

Last Gen? As in X-Box 360 / PS3? Well you're going to be missing out on all the clan and social aspect we have here cause about 99% of us are next gen.

That being said, you could just blow through the "Main Story", hit level 20 and trade the game back in a few days later.

If you like the shooting mechanics and the setting and play style, the yeah get the full edition next month

With flawless out of the way, I need Skolas before TTK. I'll give it all I've got, but if its not looking good, I may hand the controller to my other half, who beats up Skolas for fun, and go for a long walk around the block.

The time I cleared Skolas he had a small arms modifier. It wasn't easy at all.

Pretty sure the first time Foxer and myself done him, it was small arms, and yeah, not easy. I'm sure it actually reduces damage from your special and heavy weapons as well as increasing damage on primary weapons.

The bigger problem is the Vandals have small arms too, so we were constantly getting one shotted by wire rifles. I think we had brawler as well, so a captains melee was a OHK too. :(

So small arms, not so ideal.

Not sure what modifiers would be perfect. Void burn maybe?

Aye, meant to say that it works on enemy weapons too, if it's the specialist modifier the captains weapons are near enough a one shot. I think brawler only affects guardians though, with lightswitch (?) being the enemy melee one.

Edit - I think catapult and maybe juggler would be the best of a bad bunch to get as modifiers.

If you lads want to run Skolas, I haven't done it this week. It's really not that bad, mostly a case of timing the Taint transfer properly.

Played it for a few hours last night and really enjoyed it. Did the Moon Strike mission, and it was great fun. Boss took bloody ages to kill with two of us though. Got a pretty sweet chest upgrade though, which was a massive improvement on what i had and looks awesome :) Will do it again later, as i want to get the bounty were you don't die on a Strike.

What the story with ammo? I know i can get some from killing enemies, but occasionally i seem to just get more ammo from nothing.

And should i keep engrams, or are they set to a specific level (i.e the level i was when i picked them up)?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭Kash

Need Skolas before TTK too. I can get to him easily enough, but seem to lose it when the taint shows up.

Primary ammo can just refill at times.

You may as well cash the engrams; the game has already decided what they are when you pick them up.
