    9/10 they are accurate though.

So im taking it as good news that nothing showed up.

Actually its the hope that will kill me.

I'll just assume he is out and im going to Vegas on an unrelated holiday :)

But something did show up, thats why he is getting treatment and says he still wants the fight to go ahead. Theres little chance of it though at this stage considering how long it will take to heal before he can do any training etc. Probably best to not let the hope wreck your head and enjoy that unrelated holiday, annoying and all as it is.

Bruised ribs wouldn't show up though, and whilst they're not as bad as a fracture, they hurt like a mutha****er (I've done both). Generally (when you're not a competing athlete I mean) you don't even get an x-ray with bruised/fractured ribs as they are pretty much treated the same way. Broken ribs (a complete break) are different of course.

When I bruised a couple ribs it took about 2 weeks before the pain went away; was a good month or so with fractured ribs. There will certainly be a least a week of Aldo not being able to do much of anything (training wise).

Like you though, I live in hope. I've been counting the days!! Typical that it has to happen just 2 weeks out :(

Why are they waiting on the results of a scan ?

I broke a rib before . An Xray is the way to determine it and it shows up immediately.
They aren't waiting on the results. The CT confirmed it was fractured, they are waiting to meet with a specialist to see get a better idea of recovery time.
A hairline fracture could be 2 weeks. A compound fracture could be 2 months.

    :(
Can confirm they are a balls alright.
I hurt my ribs before my fight last year. Funnily enough it was about 2.5 weeks out. Really made everything a nightmare.
Hammered the ibruprofen for a week and still fought...just saying Jose.

My opinion is there is no rib injury,he will be good to go when he can pass a PED test, very fishy goings on here.

Hope its postponed and they take Conor off the card dont want excuses from either side when they fight may the best man win, surely it would be fortunes wasted in promo's if they matched Conor with someone else.

It's very easy to make that assumption but I think it's an unfortunate coincidence given the timing of everything.

You can be sure as hell that the UFC will have independent doctors looking at this.

They're as desperate as the rest of us to salvage the fight I'd imagine.

Yeah true,Im not much of a conspiracy theorist but Aldo has pulled out of ufc176 after allegedly getting wind of a random test coming his way.

The whole afraid of conor thing is nonsense its more of a case of not bending over backwards to suit the ufc after the hole reebok thing.

Is this the beginning of another Mayweather v Pacquaio situation? We'll see them fight in 2019

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,441 ✭✭✭califano

Bruised my ribs before. I said to the doctor as he was examining the x-rays ''at least they werent broken''. He said it didnt really matter as there is no difference between broken and bruised ribs, same pain and same amount of down time and nothing you can do for ribs either way but wait for them to heal.

How stupid for Dana to say everyone relax if the fight doesnt go ahead as planned.

Why not just keep his mouth shut

He was probably sick of being mentioned in Tweets. He had to say something I suppose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

I could see McGregor vs Aldo being moved to UFC 191. I know some have mentioned it on here.

It kinda makes the most sense I guess but still a pain in the face trying to rearrange things should it come to that.

    Damn my own speculation.

From a selfish point of view, I would still like to see McGregor on this card against a different opponent. The interest in 189 just won't be there otherwise. I mean, Lawler/McDonald is a great fight and there are some interesting other match-ups on the card, but try telling that to a fair majority of the Irish supporters travelling to Vegas to see McGregor fight and the travelling Brazilians, who won't get to see Aldo in the octagon.

I will totally undedstand the decision to pull Conor off the card too and long-term, it's probably the best thing to do now. But I really want to see McGregor fight on July 11th and I hope that's the case too. I'll enjoy my trip to Vegas regardless, but it's bad enough that Aldo won't be fit to fight and it'll be a huge disappointment if McGregor is pulled off the card too.

I just want to hear some official news on all of this now. It's killing me.

Why is it stupid,? look at the last two pages of this thread and the nonsense being spouted if you dont understand why dana is telling people to relax.

Could be something to do with swelling. Wait for it to come down a bit before knowing what's broke.

betfair have a market on the fight not happening its 5/6 to be on,same price to be off,Id bet on it being off to soften the blow if its off.

Stupid if the fight doesnt go ahead as planned .

I dont know about you but it has cost me a small fortune to go over meaning i've sacrificed around 2 years of doing anything to be able to afford it .

Sorry if a multi millionaire telling me to relax when the fight looks like being pulled is annoying me.

You relax Dana , i'll panic thanks .

IMO asking people to calm down a bit while the true extent of the situation is worked out is not stupid.

Fights get pulled all the time for injuries its always a risk... does it suck...of course but Vegas will be a blast regardless.

You're not the only one pal.

It is absolute crap of the highest order and as annoying as it is, these guys are human and accidents do happen.

Look at last year. One of the most injury hit years going. I'd say only a handful of cards actually made it fully intact without someone on the card getting injured.

Obviously the fight is the central reason why people booked flights etc and while you don't really think it at the time, it's a risk buying a ticket for a fight months in advance.

It happens. It's happening right now. It's shít but at least it's in Vegas rather than Dublin.... That's what I'm trying to tell myself anyway...

Betfair have a market up on whether the fight will go ahead or not on July 11th. 5/6 either way.

Aldo out to 21/20 now on Betfair exchange, McGregor evens (SkyBet).

Twitter, while it has its positive uses, really is annoying for the most part. Don't believe everything you hear. Everybody's guessing until an official statement is put out.

Some are educated guesses. Others... Well, let's just say, not as educated.

LOL dont think they need a CT or even a specialist to confirm a compound fracture!!

The bone protruding from the skin would be more than enough confirmation on its own I'm sure. ;-)

By the way, the term 'bruised' <insert bone here> is actually type of fracture, often similar to a stress fracture. It can just be as nasty in terms of pain and damage to the area and heal time.

Where did I say a CT was needed for that? The part about thevtime was a separate point.
I was pointing out that "fracture" is incredibly board term. Without more specific info, there little point guessing.

    We'll find out soon

Apologies. Just thought it was odd even mentioning compound fractures. Bit of banter is all. Nothing personal.

It's not actually. Permitted in and out of comp by WADA.
If they decide to ban it in future, it would only be in comp I imagine, so you could take it in the lead up as long as it cleared your system by the fight.

I don't think it'll be pushed to then unless Conor also fights someone at 189. NYC fight wouldn't happen until the date they've already booked in December and I can't see Conor or UFC wanting to keep him on the shelf for practically a year at his prime.

Say this fight doesn't go ahead and McGregor doesn't agree to fight anyone else until Aldo is ready. Would Mcgregor get reimbursed for his training camp, the rental of his McMansion etc?

I'd be almost certain the UFC paid for both his training camp and leased the MacMansion for him. Otherwise I'd say he would have camp back in Ireland like before. I'd say Dana wanted him to do it in Vegas though so the press had easy access.

I think it's scummy as f*ck that the UFC probably funded his camp in that sense.

Aldo doesnt give a **** about the ufc does nothing to promote them doesnt learn english or nothing why should he get camps paid for?

I think there's a subtle but important difference between paying him for something specifically compared to *specifically* providing that mansion to him in Vegas and paying for his team mates to come over.

That mansion wont help him beat aldo at the end of the day,if anything if could backfire and make him complacent

Chad mendes just tweetet hes in vegas,100% sure ufc wouldnt allow him to release news like that if he was taking the fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Fromvert

There's no proof of them paying for it, only speculation from fans on forums. No journalist has even mentioned it that I've seen.

I think I remember Luke Thomas (who's pretty reliable and doesn't really speculate) saying he heard from a good source it was costing McGregor six figures (maybe high five figures, can't quite remember).

Still not sure how it's scummy though, can you elaborate?

If the UFC want him on the west coast to do media events, attend fights so they can hype 189 and make more money I can't see the problem.

Aldo is pretty much the opposite of a company man, refuses to learn english, seems to hate everything he does to promote an event, he's a history of dropping out of fights that coincidentally end up suiting him and that's even going into the even more shadier stuff. If he was offered a house in Vegas I'd bet he wouldn't have taken it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,137 ✭✭✭TimRiggins

Its a huge gamble to leave Conor in against Mendes/Edgar then too pull him from the card, But if McGregor steamrolls either it'll make McGregor/Aldo even bigger.

  • Registered Users Posts: 746 ✭✭✭Thegalwayman

UFC can't afford for 189 to flop If McGregor fights either Mendes or Edgar it will almost be as big a PPV. They have to go ahead with the big name imho
