Should have known - she left in a black taxi. A bit of a damp exit, to be honest.

What a rollercoaster of writing for poor Jane. Not only had she to put up with Ian, but she was extremely unlucky:
"Oh no! Jane has been shot by Stephen - no wait.. she's alive but can't have children"
"Oh no! Jane has been bashed into a coma by Bobby - no wait.. she's alive but crippled"
"Oh no! Jane's in a fire set by Stephen - no wait.. she's alive but in a coma"
"Oh no! Jane's on a ventilator and Max is going to kill her - no wait.. he was interrupted and she came round with no side effects"
"Oh no! Jane's being threatened by Max by voicemail... err, don't see any way out of this one, tell Laurie she's fired."

I never did get to rewatch the episode so I still don't know but now that speculation is rife about tonight's announcement being about a returning character, how delicious would it be if Janine is back & also involved in the revenge plot?!

I would love Janine or Tanya to return but think it could be Kat and Alfie returning

Ian faked that Lucy had cancer, it was a very short marriage

I think Mel and Jack will get together, she looks his type :P

Ah yes that's right he faked that Lucy had cancer. And there was something about a letter in a kitchen drawer and I think Mel found it. Could have been a letter about lucys results were clear but Ian still played on it to marry Mel.

I think it was a new years eve cliff hanger one year, they got married on new years eve even though Mel found out the truth and as the bells bonged to welcome in the new year she said to Ian something like I am leaving you, I dont love you and I have never loved you and then left. I think my memory is of that. I shall have a look see if I can find it on YouTube.

I'm underwhelmed by Tamzin Outhwaite's return.
She has no connections to the Square anymore. I understand when a character returns if they have family still there or unfinished business, but from what I gather, Mel has neither.

If she ends up being another pawn in this farcical Weyland plot, it'll serve to be even more annoying.

I thought Tamzin faired better career wise after the show that others

I assume Mel returns with a kid by Ian or Phil (but did she ever do the deed with Ian)

S Club 7's Hannah Spearritt will have a short stint in Albert Square later this year as the newest member of Karen Taylor's (Lorraine Stanley) dysfunctional family.

Specifically, Hannah will be playing Karen's younger sister Kandice — and all signs point to her being as rowdy as every other member of Walford's newest family.

I think she has to be involved for a few reasons but I don't think she'll be a pawn.

She has history with Ian, possibly unfinished & Max was instructed to split up Ian & Jane rather than have both leave. Who else in the plot would be bothered if all they wanted was his properties / revenge?

She has history with Phil, criminally, financially, "romantically" & through Steve Owen's death. Phil seemed willing enough to do the bidding of someone in relation to the car lot & Jay. Again, who else & why?

There could be a teenager, Phil's, Ian's, Steve's maybe.

And the Carter's story arc in relation to the Vic must be in decline, maybe time for a new landlady!

Mel arrived in Walford after travelling the Greek Islands, where her business had gone bust and she had escaped an abusive relationship. She was shocked to find that her supposedly dead brother, vicar Alex, lived nearby. She reunited with him and her dad Jeff.

Mel started working for Ian and the pair quickly developed a relationship. Mel initially struggled to bond with Ian’s kids but eventually made headway. They soon became engaged but Mel got cold feet as the day got closer and decided to call it off but Ian discovered her intentions and lied that Lucy was desperately ill with cancer. The Millennium wedding dawned but Mel discovered a letter giving Lucy the all clear and confronted Ian, walking out on him as the bell tolled in the year 2000. Mel had short lived flings with Billy Mitchell and Dan Sullivan but was most drawn into the orbit of Steve Owen, whom she fell for.

Mel had slept with Lisa Fowler’s partner Phil Mitchell on Christmas Day in a drunken mistake, something which Steve later discovered. Steve forgave Mel but when Phil was shot on their wedding day, Steve became number one suspect, with even Mel doubtinng him. With Phil having discovered that it was Lisa who shot him, he instructed Steve to help him frame Dan for the crime. Dan was jailed but upon being released, he kidnapped Mel in revenge and demanded a ransom from a panicked Steve. While Dan’s hostage, Mel discovered Steve’s shadier side from him. When Phil saved Mel, she walked out on Steve. In revenge against her husband, she torched his club E20 but the pair would later reunite. They planned to emigrate with Lisa, Mark and Louise but their plans fell apart when Mark pulled out as Phil determined to stop Lisa taking Louise. A desperate Steve absconded with Louise but a car chase with Phil in pursuit led to his death and Mel was crushed. After Steve died, truths about him came to light including his affair with Sam Mitchell and the fact he had sold the house and business without telling Mel. Worse was to come when Mel realised that paperwork she had absent-mindedly signed now linked her to Steve’s drug smuggling operations and she was arrested. When Phil discovered that Mel was pregnant, he bailed her out of prison but when she then learned that Lisa had shot Phil, not Steve, she raised a glass to her late husband and departed Walford with Phil’s cash. Lisa and Louise would later join Mel in Portugal.

Hannah strangely has a very Identical face to Whitney. In fact if Whitney had same hairstyle and hair colour as Hanna you would be struggled to tell them apart I reckon. - ah well if ever Whitney has to leave the series and they want someone to stand in as a believable replacement I reckon they could pull it off
