So some of you might have noticed that toasted pickles was doing a little work on a 9-5 in the last week or two including installing a bypass valve, a new radiator and dropping the sump and he mentioned that it was for a boardsie.

Well it was myself - got her on Saturday and am well impressed with her. Her engine gearbox and clutch are in great nick and made the drive from Dublin to Cork an enjoyable trip. She drove down flawlessly and was smashing but there are a few items on the to do list for her. Give the seats a good dose of a steam cleaner and a leather treatment and shampoo the carpets, boots etc. as I will have a carpet shampooer for nothing for a day. I was given a new dash by Mr. Pickes too so I will be sticking that in.

I think she deserves a set of new mats

One of the electric window switches in the back doesnt work so that will be swapped in with a replacement.

The side indicator glass is missing so that will be replaced and there is a little crack on one of the lenses of the back lights - again scrap yard job.

New pads and discs

Brake fluid all round as all the other fluids have been changed I dont want the brake fluid to be left out.

The ABS module is misbehaving the same as in this video so that will be removed and sent for repair.

New Tyres

There is some white ****e on the bonnet. A good scrubbing with some t cut should sort it.

There is a small spot with a tiny bit of surface rust where the paint is missing also on the bonnet. I will put some rust treatment on it and some touch up paint. Then get it mopped.

This should keep me busy for a good few weekends. I will probably find a few more things to get into after that lot is done

So first job done. She is declared off the road. I am off out of the country for a month. When I return, I will be going hard at this.

So giving the car a good clean has began and it is going fairly slow as she has a bit of mould and 14 years of general previous owners to get rid of. Cleaning has included anti bacterial wipes, a steam cleaner and later I will be bringing in the carpet shampooer. You can see its not too bad and bits of handbrake gator electric window switch ... on the floor

I got my first delivery for her today in the post and although it is fairly small it is a nice start. I am keen to get the details right.

So the other day I put an order in to micksgarage for some mats, (I know their mats aren't great but they were cheap) and also some touch up paint for the car as there are a few tiny marks which should come up good with a touchup and a mop.

I had planned on new pads and discs all round but to be honest there is plenty of pad left and there is no lip at all on the discs so all this will need is a brake fluid change.

I removed the front electric window switches as one of them wasn't working and have a replacement sourced from a breaker - calling to him next week. Also she needs a new gator for the handbrake.

The side indicator glass (repeater) is missing one one side and there is water inside it on the other so they will be replaced and there is a little crack on one of the lenses of the back lights - again scrap yard job. Side indicators sourced back not found yet.


I was having trouble getting to the ABS module to day as the expansion bottle was in the way but hopefully Sunday it will be out of the car.

New Tyres are a must

Aside from that the new dash is almost installed and again I was cleaning as I go along.

I had a puncture and found the car had no jack/wheel brace - will hopefully have replacements this week.

Car needs a battery and the battery tray needs to be painted. The bracket holding the battery down is missing.

She didn't come with a parcel shelf so I am seeking out one of these.


Aside from these I plan to do an engine flush, change the gear oil, PAS fluid, plugs, interior lights, screenwash, air and pollen filters, fuel filter, drive belt, replace a bulb that's blown.

So not much else going on at the minute. I should have the second box of supplies landing in the next few days and I will be getting the little tool to take the radio out.

In the meantime i started taking everything out of the boot and was greeted with

just like the battery tray it is just some surface rust so some sanding and some paint is ahead of me here. Not a big deal.

While I was there I scrubbed this lot with some water and jif/other cleaning stuff

So I was doing a few little things with her the other day. The battery tray is painted as is the surface rust in the boot. The blue I got for the boot doesnt match exactly but since it is under the spare wheel it doesnt really matter. I have steam cleaned the boot of the car and to be honest it has come up really well. I am very happy. Will post pics next week.

I was trying to get the abs module out and it is a bit fiddly but will have that done next day i am at the car. Pics of the module are here. Will send it to BBA reman then for fixing.

I have been at the dash aswell and the radio doesnt want to pop out but that will just be some fiddling too.

So the Screenwash wasn't working on the front windscreen. Turned out to be a loose connection

Forgot to say I replaced the side repeaters. Also noticed one of the front wipers on the headlights doesn't work

So she is only blowing cold air so a bit of aircon diagnosis will be required.
