There is a way to apply although most are asked and of those who asks admins are mostly rejected.

To do so you must ask the admin of boards. He is the one who decides. He will consider by asking cmods and mods on your contributions and enthusiasm in your chose forum

To ask the admin , you must bring up the help prompt. This only works on Desktops and laptops on windows and on mozilla firefox , Internet explorer or chrome. Press "ctrl and W" key together to do so and then write a note to the admin. Hope this helped.

I'll do so tomorrow when I'm on my computer, thanks

Yes, especially when I'm at home alone, or in the bath, hitler is my role model.

I'll be disappointed if they don't hire you after that gem.

There's only one fellow who ever became a moderator after repeated asking to be one for years and he was...well I can't remember the name but you've blown your chances of becoming a moderator.

To be serious for a moment though, don't ask. Be helpful, report problem users and contribute to the forums you enjoy. Bribery goes a long way also...

Don't really know where to put this so feel free to move it to the appropriate forum.

So yeah title explains it all really, I'm very interested in becoming a mod on the motors forum, or the C&H one, I spend a lot of time on boards, mainly on the above forums so I was just wondering what it takes to become a moderator.

If you have an excellent vinyl collection of Small Faces, The Who, The Kinks, etc., a pair of dog-tooth drain pipes for Monday, a 3-button blazer, Fred Perrys, and a well kitted out Lambretta then yes, you can be a mod.

ah but your amp test answers were so serious, and you have given such a good impression of yourself with all that sitting back and observing threads, I'm sure you'll be fine ;)

Change your name to either Overheal or 6th, and PM the SMods with your completed Amp Test. It helps if you post LOLcats in Feedback while waiting for a response.

I doubt too many remember the LOLcat days.... good times...

i think asking to be a mod shows a desire and hunger for power of some sort and is seen as unattractive to the current mods, whereas someone who shows natural potential, the ability to reason and level -headedness without asking for anything in return stand out as the real contenders . I think you just shot yourself in the foot OP :(

to me being a mod means stepping in only when absolutely necessary, not twisting the charter to suit their own agenda and encouraging debate within reason. a good mod is a friendly face in the crowd who knows how to pick their battles. a bad mod can often feel like a primary school teacher on speed.

'don't be a dick' is something very subjective but I think we all know when someone is acting phallic. 80% of the time I do agree with the mods interventions in threads where this rule is 'broken'. I look at certain posts with my mod hat on and think ''infract/warn the sh1t out of him for spouting that crap'' and lo and behold they are. so I do have to give credit for that.

im sure you'll make it onto the mod desk someday OP. im kind've rooting for you, but it depends on your motivations :)

Sits back to wait for moderator to appear under your name.

Classic thread BTW. Needed a good laugh at 730

Well, a quick Google tells me that in order to become a mod you need to wear tailor-made suits, listen to soul, ska, and R&B, drive a motor scooter (usually Lambretta or Vespa) and most importantly, be into amphetamine-fuelled all-night dancing at clubs(this is probably so you can moderate the forums throughout the night as mods don't sleep!) :)

OP have you been going around thanking MOD posts? Even when they're not clever or funny?

You need to have been I'm afraid. Either that or write a piece comparing Mods to digital Mother Theresas. Unfortunately Robsweezie has beaten you to it.

Forget about being a mod, there's more money to be made by being a paid poster like myself.(actually that reminds me, I need to start charging a little bit more).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 891 ✭✭✭Falcon L

I don't get this need to be a moderator. No offence to existing mods here, but why would you want to provide free labour, skills or time to a for-profit business? If you were asked to do your day job for no pay, would you be first with your hand up? Probably not.

In my view, you need to be a special kind of person to want the kind of "power" over others that modding supplies. Not good special either.

Don't give the "for the good of the community" line either. Boards is a business and the posters are the product.

They have pretty strict criteria for being a mod, if you think you've got what it takes, the following link is useful

OP, perhaps best to take one step at a time - dont jump before you can walk.

Best way to get experience of the workings of the MODS is to get yourself banned. This is a natural progression from 'registered user' to 'moderator'.

There are a number of ways to do this, but the easiest is to simply ask to be banned in here.

You have to take the amp test

That's like peering gingerly into a time capsule from a bygone era and marveling at what previous generations found funny.

I'll make ye a mod. You can be Grand Supreme Ultimate Moderator of my housework. Start off with the dishes, then the hall and stairs need a good going over with the vacuum. When yer done ya can make me a nice sweet coffee. We'll review your progress at coffee time.

Keep the head down, nose clean and armpits waxed and shiny and one day you might make CMod or even Admin. You'll be needing some gardening tools if that day does ever come.

You may be able to moderate a forum but you'll never be able to moderate my heart.
