    Hi

    here what has happened.
Friend drove a car. there was an accident and he was a third car to be hit by 2nd car as an impact.
the insurance company admitted liability but now they are screening him for social welfare payments (he isn't)
is this the new regulations? can they actually do it?
what welfare has to do with it?

he got a copy of a letter from SW saying that this car insurance company was in touch requesting his information regarding SW and SW replied that he isn't receiving anything.

    since when is this on?
    is this legal?

    thanks for replies

It appears to be excessive info, unless he has told them something he hasn't declosed to you.
Data protection commissioner can advise better on this.

This is related to the new process where if a personal injury claim includes illness benefit, then the sum paid by social welfare is deducted from the settlement and repaid to social welfare. As part of this, social welfare issues a certificate listing payments - or in your friends case, lack of payments - which indicates monies due to social welfare.
