Insurance valid if use attic 'storage' as bedroom?

Lots of our neighbours are using attic space as a bedroom albeit planning permission only allows for the conversion to be used as storage space. How does this impact on a claim on house insurance?
Thinking of doing the same but would be concerned that If the room is being used for a purpose other than what it is allowed to be (ie outside of regulations) an assessor could say your house insurance is invalid?

Wouldnt come into play at all if this was your primary residence. You just can't call it a bedroom when selling the property as it doesnt comply with regs.

No. That happened because he misdeclared a question that was asked. Most insurers here don't ask how many bedrooms you have.

Agree. Most insurance companies want the square footage rather than how many bedrooms

Question is why can't the space be used as a bedroom? If it's emergency access there might be an issue in the event of a fire claim?
