    Thinking of getting the old man a trip away to Aintree this year. Just wondering if anyone knows of alternatives in terms of cheaper accommodation anywhere near Liverpool that is easy to get to / from aintree on the day? preferably by public transport. Obviously prices im getting quoted are insane so far...

    and yes I have flights "picked out"

    Have you tried New Brighton? Few hotels there and easy train ride to Aintree. Guy I know owns the Albion Guest house there. Might be worth a try.
