Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.

This is more of a general query I've always wondered about.

Say for example if I won the Lotto, and wanted to move to America to live permanently. Buy a house, live there, and just spend my fortune.

How is it done? Is there some special rules in place that, as you are not going to be costing the US Government anything, that you can come live? I often hear of actors etc retiring to the States, even though they would be different nationalities.

I've heard of some law as well where, if you invest 1M in a local business, and your investment creates a certain amount of employments, that you get to stay.

Essentially, there is no way to move without a visa.
If you have a lot of money and are retired, you can probably get a B2 tourist visa which allows you to be in the USA 6 months a year.
If you have even more money and can start a US business and create US jobs, you can get an E1 investors visa.

For actors and stuff it's relatively easy because theres a performers visa. I know a bunch of lads who live in San Diego who are in a band, and they didn't struggle that much to get their visas.

If you won the Lotto, you could hire an immigration lawyer who would sort it for you. You might need to invest a chunk of money in developing a US business, but with enough money that's possible.

Without many millions though, its a little harder :)
