Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi there,

Can I remove the "youporn" entry from the menu or just lock down the menu somehow so it is never visible without a parental control PIN?

Bought this for a kids room and reckon its absolutely ridiculous if they hadn't allowed a stock way of hiding this option :(

PS I know they can't access it without a PIN but I need it gone outright or else box is being returned..... Don't need that hassle either.....

    Thanks

Hi there - Hoping the above has changed in the meantime?

    - If not can someone please recommend a similar product that doesn't offer porn as standard when you sit down to watch TV with your wife and kids (beggars belief that you'd have to ask.....)

I've fitted a few of these over last few months and I find them excellent value for the money, much easier to use compared to other receivers I've fitted in the past also, oh and definitely worth paying the extra €1 to have it pre programmed.

Just to be clear the Ariva does not offer porn as standard, for anyone that does want this a parental control pin is required.

This purpose of this thread is to ask questions about the Ariva 153 for those who already own it or are thinking of purchasing. It would be better to start another thread looking for recommendations for other models otherwise this one will go quickly off topic and become useless for those searching for answers to particular questions about this box..

You have had this box since last year so I'm wondering why its suddenly become an issue again ?

Being crystal clear its a default menu item that cannot be removed or hidden - I would not have purchased this product in a million years had I known - Similar to many other consumers who have voiced this opinion online

No harm in people being aware of this 'feature' of the Ariva 153 combo box - Informed decision making is always preferable.

The box was never used - I opted to use an old Sky box as an alternative - Kept the Ariva as didn't want to hassle the original seller as it wasn't his issue....

I re-asked this question simply because I am now going to purchase 2-3 more combo boxes - One of which will replace the 153 which I consider to be wholly unsuitable for both a childs room and family entertainment.

I agree, I find the ariva boxes to be extremely user friendly and so simple to use. Mango Joe - I totally get where you are coming from. You Porn should not be in the menu, no way. Although on the other hand, why would your kids need to be going around the menus on the 153. i wouldnt even think they would find it. But as you say you deffo dont want the kids friends telling their parents ye have porn on the tv :pac::pac:

Preset and blind scan of Astra 2a is missing a lot of BBC TV and BBC radio channels. It seems to miss Frequencies 1077, 10803, 10818 and 10847. Checked these and they show Signal Intensity of 45 and Signal quality of 10. Most frequencies are in the range 90%/75%. The figures for Astra 2a is 95%/85%. Why are these four frequencies so low ????

LNB Skew needs adjusting, or faulty LNB, connection fault, or dish misalignment (least likely given your other transponders Strength and Quality figs), are what I'd be looking at.

  • Registered Users Posts: 126 ✭✭Claggan

Thank you .... skew made no difference .... but I redid both end connectors and moved the cable to another LNB (quad) outlet .... and I got some of them back. Will work on it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 126 ✭✭Claggan

Lost the ones I got briefly. So I reset the box and re-scanned. I now get all frequencies except 10818 which has BBC One NI and BBC Two NI .... shows 45% and 10% on this frequency.

  • Registered Users Posts: 126 ✭✭Claggan

And suddenly, out of the blue, Frequency 10818 starts showing a 90% intensity signal and a bouncing quality signal of 56%/70% .... at a loss to figure this out.
So I scanned the frequency and got my NI Channels back. Nothing at all to do with Skew or bad connections ....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,559 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

10818 are the SD versions. 10847 will give the HD ones

Complete newbie here and I just bought 2 of these boxes and I'm looking for the setup to run it from the USB drive. Its meant to put all the Irish channels etc.. in the correct order as the auto scan puts them all over the place.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Not sure exactly what your looking for here. Can you be a bit more specific. Only a few saorview Irish channels. Easy sort.

Hi, quick question does anyone know what format an IPTV list needs to be saved as to use the USB load option on an ARIVA. I know it can be done but can't figure what name and format to save list as.

I've see a few videos of it being done on some of the Open boxes but file name used on those doesn't seem to work.

    Thanks

Does the iptv work on the boxes, seen the option but never looked into it? This could be interesting

Hi, I believe it will work have tried adding complete m3u file but that didn't work as you need the individual streams which you could add manually but would take ages. If you goto MyIPTV and press add there is an option to upload form USB just need to know the form and file name. Will keep looking was hoping Tony who I know is a guru on these boxes would know off the top of his head. Thanks

Cheers. I will definitely be following this. It’d be great if I could do this for my dad. He wouldn’t be great at switching between boxes. So if I could get everything on the one box would be ideal

Afraid I've not played around with IPTV much on the 153 but this post from the 150 days might help somewhat

I haven't done much about looking into IPTV (I don't have it connected to the internet) but it looks like you can stream video to the box either locally from your PC (using videolan player I think) or from online services. A translation of their help:

    What is My IPTV?
Starting from version 1.23B2 receivers Ariva 52E, 102mini, 102E, 150Combo, 152Combo, 202E, 250Combo and 252Combo are equipped with a function we IPTV. It allows for manual or automatic transmission adding video streaming over the Internet or local network using HTTP.

We recommend using the text of uploaded files from USB. The file must be named iptv.txt and located in the main storage directory. After that, the file should be placed channel information in the form: channel name comma http address and port as in the example below:

    Baracuda, http://112.49.96.134:8032/

Sample file from publicly available streamami dotępny is > here <

Please note that only supports HTTP Streaming H.264 video encoding and MP3 playback.

So I am recording a program on TV3 at the moment, the box is displaying REC as I'd expect. Now I'd like to watch a program I recorded earlier today on RTE1.

So I press the Menu button to access the Media player but it doesn't work?

Surely I can watch an recording whilst another program is being recorded?

Is there an alternative box that would allow me to do this?

Trying to provide a sky plus like experience for the house here as I know when I pull plug on sky I'll get lambasted ðŸ˜

You can if you press the PVR button .

That gets you into the list of recordings made on the 153 so if you had pressed that button you would have been able to watch your RTE1 programme while recording TV3

That method will not allow you to access the media player to play MP3's or video files acquired from your sources

Just my tuppence worth. I get notifications on this thread.

Some of the stuff ye guys are trying to do with this old style box are near to impossible. It's a real good box to watch TV and I can update channel lists from box to box via usb easily. But that's about it.

If you want to do the fancy stuff get an open source box. triple tuner, built in HDD. Pay 2-300 notes.

Hi, my opinion best enigma box out there in terms of value against specifications would be the Edision OS mega. Although pretty much the Zgemmas and smaller Edision's are all more than capable. Even the older Amiko Aliens are capable of running most of the recent IPTV plugins. Thanks

Guys it would be best to start a new thread to discuss other boxes, this one is specifically for the 153 ( as per thread title) will become useless otherwise.

It expects a file called iptv.txt. That file contains your iptv urls with the service code above. If you have an m3u you can edit with notepad and save as iptv.txt. Save to USB.

You then import the iptv.txt using the my IPTV app within the menu.

Hi folks. Wondering what the latest firmware file with full IRL & UK channel list is? Box ran into a problem so I reset it. Lost all channels and it looks like I've a long night ahead unless I get a nice neat upgrade file!

    Help would be much appreciated.

The 153 has no extra functionality unless you want to explore IPTV . The ariva 4k has lots of extras but I'd suggest starting another thread or reply to one of the existing ariva 4k threads to discuss that further.

I bought an Ariva 153 combi and spent several hours on YouTube trying to tune Saorview & FTA. I'm surprised that FTA (which I don't pay for) works perfectly while Saorview (for which I've paid over 20+ years) doesn't work properly for RTE. The box seems to be picking up RTE on 698.000MHz/DVB-T and is a bit jumpy - rather than TV3 on 666.00MHz/DVB-T which is great. Apologies but I'm a total newbie to this - what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

Your aerial (picking up the terrestrial channels) needs to be aligned or upgraded, or else the connections on the cabling need checking.

Are you using a set-top aerial? Then all bets are off re. getting a decent signal.

Try to position it in or near a window facing your preferred transmistter. (Frequencies you gave in an earlier post would suggest Spur Hill, Cork?)

Thanks for the helpful info. Thurston? I re-positioned the aerial and was able to re-tune the channels and they're back again. Yipee. Next challenge is to connect wifi and use the record function... that's my day planned:)

Really happy with Ariva 153 except for a minor glitch that it freezes sometimes. I'm not sure what's causing it as it's not connected to wifi (at least when I try to connect to Youtube I get "Network is not available" message). Also the record and pause functions don't work with USB. Any ideas appreciated . Thanks

I find if you were after moving channels around/creating groups etc, you need to restart the box otherwise channels will freeze the odd time. I never got Youtube working on the ariva
