Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey there,

Was just wondering if 80k is too much on a Hornet 250 1996 registered?

Has a bit of road rash on the side, other than that its looking in pretty good shape.

Just doing the maths, a 19 yo bike with 80,000 kms is an average of about 4200 kms a year (or 2600 miles in old money).

That's not a lot at all for a bike.

What's more important is how it was looked after during the 19 yrs - was it serviced regularly, etc.

It's not a lot per year, but overall it's a fair bit for a 250CC though. But as gipi said, if it was well looked after I'd imagine it'd last probably last another 80,000km or so without needing a rebuild.

No first hand experience with wearing an engine out myself, just gathering this from what I've read elsewhere regarding 250CC engines.

If you get a cheap price and it runs okay, go for it.

I'd say just deal with what you have in front of your face because it is quite high mileage by some standards and it's not impossible that the bike has had some overhauling or even a replacement engine at some point. Just be diligent and check it over thoroughly or have a mechanic check it over

My first bike was a 97 250, it had 65k on the clocks when I sold it and it was running great. The mileage should be fine but any bike can have hidden problems. Make sure to check it over as best you can.
