Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How to connect 2 coax cables together?

    Hi all,
I have a Saorview TV on the boat. So.. TV => Amp => Cable => Antenna

When I went to inspect the cable between amp and and antenna, I found this:

Obviously this is not ideal and would like to get a proper connection there. Can anyone advise what I should purchase to do so?

Here is the connector (For the life of me can't remember the name of it) on the amp and antenna... I'm guessing I could make off the 2 coax ends with this, and get a female coupler/connector? I just can't remember the name of it so can't remember what to Google. I know Maplin is expensive but would prefer to buy locally to get it done ASAP.

    Cheers :)

I think its a BNC connector

Try your local electrical wholesaler, they should have them.

Also co-axial cable is in different sizes, like RJ45 etc... so may be best to bring along a little piece of the cable if you can so they can give you the correct size connectors

The connector is an F connector and is ideal for joining the two coax cables. Put one of those on each cable They twist on after you strip the cables back) and then use a coupler like this to join the cables.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/F-Type-Coax-Coaxial-Cable-Coupler-Female-Jack-Adapter-Connector-10-Pack-Lot-/380682423200

    Good luck with that.

that's an F connector - you can make a joint with one of these

OK. I was going to go with these connectors:
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-metal-twist-on-rg59-f-plug-fu06g

    And this coupler:

    Would this work?

-Edit- Just saw the above posts, thanks :) Maplin have connectors for RG 58 / 59, CT 100 / 125 - does it matter?

Yes, but Maplin are quite expensive for most things but if you are only buying a few, then it matters not.

Look on ebay or adverts.ie or ask a satellite installer for some. They should be about 10c each.

I appreciate that, but for the sake of convenience Maplin is where i'm off to! Thanks for your help

I would probable be cheaper to replace the cable

    50c a metre x ?

That would be a proper fix....

Agree 100% -- a local installer, who can no longer be contacted, used 2 "f" plugs ,a coupler and PVC tape to join cables together on a chimney when he replaced an aerial and mast head amp.
After a few rainy days TV pictures were breaking up --- even worse when the wind blew as the joint fell apart.
I replaced the cable from aerial to TV and no problems since.
He didn't even use self-amalgamating tape to stand a chance of success.
    Regards

Took the above advice and ordered a 10m cable, with crimped connectors - cheaper than Maplin as said above :)
