I used to get liquer flavourings, they were not cheap but good quality and far cheaper than branded liquer prices.

Tesco white rum is 12.69 and I would prefer it over bacardi, less taste than bacardi which I find overpowering.

Also you can add as much sugar as you want to the flavourings, I find malibu sickly sweet.

Get on the plane to Germany (Bremen). Flight for 20 Euro Dublin - Bremen with Ryanair (if it is still available) Bottle of liquor for a fiver in Aldi or Penny Markt. Fill up your suitcase and you are laughing all the way.

That 20 becomes 50 to 90 depending on time of the year with the bag fees each way as you can't carry bottles that large in hand luggage. You'll probably need a sturdy enough suitcase leaving you with maybe 15kg over for baggage. Normal bottle weighs roughly a kilo

That's 6 quid a bottle price differential immediately. I'm pretty sure that's quite close to the price differential between their Aldi stores and ours in most cases!

Even if it was twice the price gap the opportunity cost of spending an entire day doing it would mean you value your time at about a third of the minimum wage. There is a reason booze cruises are done in large cars on ferries...

Oh I know. It was not that serious about flying over. But if it happens that you are over in Germany and bring checked luggage - make sure to bring some spirits. I would not fly over just for a few bottles but to have a good time maybe for a weekend.

I was on a stag in germany, so had little stuff with me and lots of room. I got 6x1L bottles of aged bacardi, they were €11 each in the airport.

It works out at €42.85 per litre in O Briens. So would have cost €191.10 more to buy the same here.

In the canaries I filled a 5L plastic water bottle with vodka to save on weight & space.

Have you booked a new liver yet? :pac:

I thought I was bad bringing back a 24x750 box of Black Bush from NI during the "Newry Days" - although that actually is a lot more alcohol now that I think of it.

:pac: thing is spirits do not go off. I am actually on my last bottle of rum, and it was 6-7 years ago. Always handy to have bottles if you need a present urgently for xmas or a house warming or whatever.

I was on holiday years ago, had a bottle of something clear I hadn't drunk - tequila or sambuca, something like that. Lid on the bottle was broken so poured it into a 1L plastic water bottle and brought it home. Went to a barbecue a few weeks later and ended up leaving it in the kitchen.

House owner called me the next day, he came down in the morning hungover and dehydrated and grabbed the first bottle of water he saw. By the time his brain registered the smell he'd already glugged a large mouthful ... :D

In relation to the specific request, Lidl currently have a 70cl "pina colada concentrate". Its just a coconut rum. Its 12.99 and its 28% - as opposed to over 20 quid normally and 21% for Malibu.

Is there no pineapple flavour in it?

No. You have to add that yourself - has a shopping list of cream and pineapple juice on the back.
