Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

In. Rode this with monkeyslayer two years ago, tore the legs off me!

On steep hills it pays to look at the % reading on the Garmin rather than the speed - it's normally higher! Did a reccy of this year's route today and for the record, these are the max % on some of the climbs.
    The Wall - 19%
    Lugala - 17%
    The Long Hill - 15%
    Wicklow Gap - 13%
Most of these readings only lasted for a few seconds but there were longer sections nearby only a few % less.
As someone else pointed out, it's the accumulative effect that causes the damage!

How are the numbers going, are there still spaces available

Last I heard there was less than a hundred, so we expect to fill up in the next two weeks. My advice would be to book your spot as soon as possible!

Then when you get to the top (if your still alive) you look up the road and see another wall of tarmac

We've contacted last years entrants this morning and as a result, we've had a large uptake in the last few hours. Looks like we should be full by the end of the week if not earlier.

Ghosty669 - I registered very early on for this but have since discovered that I'm expected to attend a First Holy Communion that day. Is it possible to transfer my entry to someone else if it sells out?

I'm in. Going to tackle the Tour of Wicklow the previous Sunday and planning to have a go at both the Mick Byrne and the Wicklow 200 on consecutive week-ends in June.

All good prep for the Marmotte I hope, but I suspect I just might be in the market for a set of golf clubs by the second week of July!

Yes indeed. An extra day's recovery before this then! Shure that'll be no problem!?!

Just signed up. Also using it as prep for wicklow 200, although the thoughts of the wall near the end of 150k isn't exciting me yet! 😱

Busy few weeks ahead for me now, 130k charity spin to Cavan this Saturday, tour of wicklow on 25th and this on May 2nd.

Better start dropping hints to the wife about all this!!

They are not total sadists in Orwell as the Wall is only about 30k from the start. Unfortunately it is immediately followed by the Long Hill and pretty soon after by Lugala. After that there's really "only" the Wicklow Gap and Sally Gap (again) to worry about. Still not exited? :D

It's only the easy half of the wall. Tis grand :-P

Jaysus only just noticed that this is 150K, was it always that long???????

My route reading skills need fine tuning!! Yep it's after 30ish k, which 'only' leaves all the mountains then!!!! Il have hamstrings like harps that evening!

All joking aside im really looking forward to the challenge of this in my first year doing sportifs etc.

I personally found that worse having the wall near the start, as it knocks the stuffing out of you earlier on and your legs are dead then

if it was towards the end you could say to yourself I will get over this and then roll home (well stagger)

    Hi all,
Just a heads up that registration is closing in 24 hours as we've now within 5 places of our goal number.

For those that have entered, we'll be sending out information about a new aspect to the event in the next few days.

    Thanks

The same hill (the wall) 150 times instead of the planned route.

KOH competition - sweet! Cue me destroying myself up The Wall and suffering (even more than usual) for the remaining 120km

I think we'll have to ensure that the photographer is around the finish of each of the sections to capture those faces!

Now if there was a competition for slowest up the hills I'd be all over that!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,644 ✭✭✭D9Male

I am looking forward to this; my first ever sportive.

How long will I have to complete the event? I certainly won't be involved in the sprint at the end!

For the last few years the last rider has returned around 5pm and we'll have a vehicle following this person to ensure that no one is left on the road.

We'd all feel too mean telling Buffalo he's not allowed on the spin :(

Anyone that has energy to smile at the photographer at the top of the wall freaks out the other riders and so it's better to leave him back there.

Does Denis not get freaked out at being followed? :p

OK, so 8 hours for 155km. I think I will manage that so long as I don't get lost.

    It's all downhill, I assume?

Site rules don't allow me to post my entry that I can't use here but I have one in the Cycling Adverts forum. I had interest last night but nothing since, if that's any good to you

This is probably a pretty stupid question, but how will I know which way to cycle?

My sense of direction is bad at the best of times. Assume there will be numerous signposts to ensure that even the most tired and moronic cyclists can get back safely?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 934 ✭✭✭monkeyslayer

just keep taking the road that goes up

Markers sprayed on the road, marshalls and lots of people going the same way.
