Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Alarm advice

In the middle of new build and working on electrical spec before first fix.

Fancy a simple alarm with just 3-6 PIRs or similar. I understand a perimeter is better but I am looking to keep cost low and my alarm needs are low as

    1) Relatively secluded spot up a cul da sac with strangers being rare.
    2) Dad living next door
    3) In laws will be living in a purposely build granny flat adjoining house so the house will very rarely be empty (for the next ten years at least)!

With that in mind can anyone recommend a suitable, cheap alarm I can purchase and my sparkie install. As said 3-6 PIRs that is simple to wire in.

    Thanks

I appreciate that your intention is to keep the price down but IMHO you would be best wiring for perimeter protection. This should not cost much. At a future date when the funds are available perimeter sensors can be added.

The problem with just using PIRs is that the intruder has to be inside your home to activate them. In addition you will not have the option of setting the alarm while at home.

I will move this thread to a more appropriate forum.

Would you hot every single window then? Or just ground floor? Or what process would you use to select?

At a minimum alarm ground floor and any other accessible windows.

If you are on the first fix I would have the windows wired up for the alarm now. If you decide later to add them to the system it will be cheaper to add wired devices as opposed to wire free.
