Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Going well alright. Windies have genuine pace in their attack but they don't look great in the field. Might tell as the game wears on.

131 for 1 after 23 overs. Just slipped below required run rate, but only barely.

Wickets in hand much more important than r/r now

Stunned at the way we are batting

Thought we had lost it at the sammy/simmons stand

I have no idea whats going on. But why are ireland big favourites? http://live.paddypower.com/#/?event=7661719

Im just suprised because everyone on here seems to think we're bunched... or am i mistaken?

Never watched cricket, have little interest, however be happy if Ireland beat a "big" cricket nation.

Just tell me are we looking bad, alright or good right now?

We are looking good at the no but a long way to go yet.

Well, some explain what's going on, have Ireland a good chance or what?

Wickets in hand, powerplay to come, ball will wear making it easier with all the fast bowlers Indies have, close to run rate. Ireland have been slightly ahead for most of the innings but in the last few overs they have taken it more by the scruff of the neck.

The naysayers earlier forgot batting is our strength. However a long way to go yet and a couple of wickets would change things quickly

Irelands batting coupled with the windies bad bowling is making this look easy

    But nothing is done yet

    Hold on to your seats

Some great stuff from Joyce and Stirling here, targeting Roach and Taylor nicely

So by my mathematics we would beat them at the current rate of runs over 50 overs?

Yes but if only it were that simple

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,806 ✭✭✭corny

Joyce and Stirling exploiting some pretty average bowling. They're all over the shop in the field too.

Dare I say it we'll win this handy the way the games going.

Have learned we never do it the handy way though. Lot of cricket left and nerves to be held

Ireland should recruit a few hurlers as batters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,579 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Superb 50 from Joyce, not his usual 'test match' pace

Sigh. So close to the ton.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭booth70

A wicket against the run of play

Still comfortably placed to win this if Ireland don't panic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,796 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

Well bollox to that. We bat deep enough though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,579 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Important now not to panic and keep wickets in hand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,056 ✭✭✭Sparks43

    Balls

    Great knock from Stirling though

    Great performance from Stirling.

Feel bad for Sterling, deserved his ton. Joyce looking well and Niall O'Brien should keep his head out there

newby to the game, can you explain the concept of wickets in hand?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,579 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

The number of men who haven't batted yet. The more the better obviously as it takes the pressure off the guys in the middle

How many men you have left to bat

No getting out basically, keeping batsmen is reserve for later

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,159 ✭✭✭mrkiscool2

How many men you have left to bat
There are 11 men so there are potentially 7 more men that can bat. Obviously you don't want to be getting down to the number 8 man or lower!

Does Kevin O'Brien still play for Ireland?

    Yep, number 7 batsman

Yes. Took a wicket earlier. Batting at num 6 I believe

Yup, he is only 30. Hasn't been in the best form recently but on his day he can do real damage

I take it he is the trump card - or rather last stand batter then?
