We've rotated the strike very well today

I understand the prudent view but i' d be astonished if we lose 8wickets on a pitch like this to such an average attack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

But what happens if you run out of overs? and these guys are still batting?

Once the 50 overs are done in one day games that's it

    Run a ball from here
Batting powerplay will suit Ireland. The pace of the bowlers means the ball comes off the bat quite quickly so less fielders outside the circle means more boundaries. Should do it assuming they keep their heads.

I think what he means is they are free-er to take risks and go for 6.

Nearly time to start thinking about the net run rate ;)

These singles are shifting the pressure back onto the Windows.

Say O'Brien and Joyce are still batting come the end of 50 overs but fallen short of the runs, say they are 290-2 after 50 overs. thats a defeat? apologies for the very basic question :pac:

    Yes

Ireland in control now. 104 from 18 overs is doable. Don't see Indies taking the wickets needed to stop them getting there!

Yeah, but it won't come to that

Funnily enough NOB seems to have that mind now.

so you think they will eek it out and tip away at the target of 300+ or they will fall to 8 wickets?

I think they'll keep chipping away and if needs be we have enough batsmen left to go swinging.

Would love to see these 2 still there at the end

Can't see them losing the 8 wickets. Indies need to get Joyce, O'Briens and Wilson out to stand a chance. If they do will be quite close.

Edit: My tweet was just shown on the bbc live commentary :P

Obviously great if Ireland do finish the job and win but it's very sad to see the state West Indies cricket is in, on and off the field.

    233-2 after 35

Back to my mathematatics - we should win comfortably.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,806 ✭✭✭corny

Absolutely demoralising for the Windies the way Joyce and NOB are finding the gaps. We've been miles better than them at challenging the field.

    Taking a deep breath here

Stand to win 240 quid if we do it

But a friend backed against us and will lose 400

Mixed feelings but lets get it done

Mcbrine one of the unsung hero's. 26 runs in his 10 overs was truly outstanding

I hope the recovery starts soon, in fact ideally right after a loss to Ireland...

Don't understand the crazy pessimistic reactions on here tbh. This was always on the cards with our bowling. One good innings though on a small ground with a good pitch and we arent out of this

    :)

No ton for Joyce, pity. Great knock though

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,806 ✭✭✭corny

It would be one of the greatest collapses in World Cup history if we lose from here against that bowling and on such a great wicket.

    283-3 after 40

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,806 ✭✭✭corny

Does Gayle have the best numbers of the Windies bowlers? The seamers on both sides have been clattered all over the place.

Went to bed half way through the Windies innings - Ireland were completely dominating with the ball

Got up to discover they had posted a score of 300+ which must have been so disheartening. The way Itrland have approached their innings has shown just how much character this team has. Still 20 to get but they are so far ahead in the chase the Windies are in "needing a miracle or two" territory now

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,283 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

That's a great stat - 2 out of 5 successful 300+ chases in WC cricket to Ireland with a 3rd on the horizon

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,806 ✭✭✭corny

Bit of a nervy finish since the power play ended.
